Was Callow one of the youngest in his draft class? Heard nothing but good things about him so far

Nope. Callow is a Jan 2004 birth. Hvidston is the youngest as an early Sept birth. Callow is a long term project on a drafted high school kid who went to the USHL route for his D+1 season and then jump to the NCAA. Future Harvard teammate Moore (2020 draftee) did the same thing as Moore was also a high school drafted product.
Anaheim could have yet another late round pick be a high goal scorer as a freshman in college with Callow, known as a goal scorer. Kukkonen (2021 draftee) did that last year with 18 goals in the NCAA. Coincidently, Kukkonen was a high school drafted product who went to the USHL for his D+1 and college afterwards.

Not sure about the players themselves chosen (unlike some I will wait to cast judgement because I trust our scouts though), but position wise this is what I wanted to see, forward heavy at the top with a high goalie pick and swing for high upside D with the late picks
Just now realized we didn't pick a single player from the Q. Big departure from last year.

Might just be a coincidence, but we didn’t pick a single player either at college or slated to head to college next season.
I trust the scouts and the development team, but some of the picks are some head scratchers.

Yeeeesh that defense lol.
Looking at this roster, I see a style of play that keeps other teams constantly on their heels, very similar to the Panthers. Aggressive forecheckers and offensive-minded defensemen.

I left out the Europeans (except Carlsson) because they are usually 50/50 on participating. Clara could definitely be there, but I also wouldn't be surprised if we just invite an undrafted goalie or 2 like we usually do.
I guess trust the scouts but honestly they haven’t really given a reason to trust them much when it comes to drafting forwards outside the top 10. In fact they’ve been decently garbage in that regard, and these picks aren’t really reassuring off first glance

I know scouting is a complete gamble, but I’ve said for a while now that maybe we move on from Madden and co and see what else is ‘out there’
The only bright side of this defense is maybe we flip a player or two for a better offensive threat.

That SJ 3rd will be very high 3rd almost like a late 2nd and the Pitt 3rd could be a high 3rd as well. Excited for those picks.

You don't move on from one of the best scouts in the NHL (who has been linked to numerous GM jobs in the past few seasons) so you can see 'what else is out there'.

Why not? It’s been told here numerous times that we are horrible at drafting forwards. Is it the players fault or scoutings fault?

Because scouting isn't an exact science. Some players don't develop, some picks are bad. It is what it is.
Sure, our forward drafting hasn't been fantastic, but we have still drafted some bloody good forwards that are developing at present along with probably top 3 in the league for drafting and developing defenceman.
Anaheim hit on far more picks then they don't, it would be wild to change things on a whim when our drafting is among the best in the NHL still.
If Madden would be let go today, he'd have interest from just about every team in the league and be snapped up by the end of the week, without a shadow of a doubt.
