Maybe they could revise the forecast. Pretty sure we don't get "freezing rain" at -15, and I'm pretty sure its -17 out there right now and not +1 as forecast. lol

Not that I'm complaining, I HATE freezing rain. But would have preferred knowing its snowshoeing weather out there. Not bad out, bit windy.

Edmonton snow removal is a joke. A friend just sent me some pics from Cold Stream, B.C (near Vernon). Snowed the night before, and in the morning, a grader was out cleaning, following a short time later by a sander. In Edmonton, it's reversed, and 4 days later, in a display of incompetence. In Edmonton, they don't do snow removal. They just move it around.

Our philosophy has always been, it’s going to melt in a few months, just be patient.

4 inches of wet snow here. The type that shovels like concrete. Just push it two feet and its glued to the sidewalk, you all know the type. Backbreaker "snow". This is going to be so much more spring melt in a couple days. Water everywhere, already, for weeks.

Just saw a hint of the sun. Before it set. Been a long time it seems.
OMG..I don't know how you guys take it. These long grey winters are extremely depressing. I grew up here in the 80s and remembered the winters to be colder but a heck of a lot more sunnier. I've been back for 5 years and still can't use to this. I'll make a point of taking full advantage of the late spring and summer skies this year by being out every chance I get.

Winters are for the most part reasonably sunny, at least compared to other locales. Have spend some time in various parts of BC during the winter, and I find the general lack of sun there more depressing than the cold weather we have here. Edmonton gets around 400 hours more sunshine hours/year than Kelowna and 500 more than Abbottsbord. On average Edmonton gets measurable amounts of sun 325 days of the year.

Yeah, I saw the same data for measurable sun. We're one of the top Canadian cities for that. However, I found a chart that measures sunshine hours from wikipedia and see that winter gray I mentioned. I'm comparing my experience to the southeastern US so no wonder I feel the way I do about it. Here are the sunshine hours charts for select North American cities which does include Edmonton.

I must have been inside for most of it.;)

Lol, for sure if you are comparing to southern US cities, I was thinking more of a within Canada comparision.

I lived in Vancouver for a bit.

The constant rain and gloomy weather was more depressing than the cold is in alberta.

Specifically the Orlando area. However, the humidity is unbearable for 6 months out of the year so it's tough to be outside for an appreciable length of time especially from May to October. Skies can be full of sun but sweltering heat during those months. Our weather seems to be at the opposite end of the spectrum. So that's why there's that huge adjustment.
I do look forward to the long days of summer here though. Hopefully smoke will be a minimal issue this year. I plan on going on the trails a lot this year. Our river valley and ravine system are truly remarkable to explore.

So we have a two level lot. Back garage 3ft lower than the back yard. So of course it floods every year. Everybody on the block with back garage has the same problem, even with retaining wall. Water finds a way.. Dug a trench, elevated the garage and installed treated 4X4 as sills all the way around by literally lifting each wall at a time with bottle jacks and jack posts. Let me just say that this winter we had one shitload of snow, precipitation, water. Maybe the most we've ever had. My remedies have worked but the amount of standing water in backyard (early melt before ground is absorbing any) means the water was going somewhere. Been having to pump out garage a bit, mostly back walkway and back yard near the low point. Its frustrating how the water was just standing on the lawn and garden for weeks.

So FINALLY sometime last evening that magic point occurred (not sure what its called) where the ground is warm enough, thawed enough to be absorbing moisture. Expecting more deluge this morn, but all the water soaking into lawn and garden now. Yay.

I like the nice weather we been getting but these early melt cycles screw things up. People with sunken garages like on Ada blvd, lol, they could go canoeing in there..

ps exterior drains don't work either. They just freeze up into a solid pipe of ice.
