I dont see how 2 years is any more risky for the Avs.

Unless you think there's a chance Georgiev becomes a Top 5 goalie with us? Otherwise I think there's very little risk signing him for say 2x2.75 versus 3x3.25 for us.

He's not very good, best case scenario is we're getting average level goaltending. Worst case scenario we get sub .900 level goaltending. That worst case is far more likely IMO.

He doesn't have to become a top 5 goalie. If he establishes himself as a solid starter and we give him only 2 years now, we get to play this game again in 2 years.

I would easily prefer 2 years over 3 with Georgiev. 3 years is risky, I'm not convinced he's the solution as the #1G so I wouldn't want to commit to 3 years either. Plus 2 should mean a cheaper cap hit for those 2 years.
If it comes to it do you really think he'd be hard to move with a ~$3m caphit and just one year remaining? There are always teams needing a goalie willing to take a chance. I'd much rather get the 3rd year on a low caphit than risk having him explode and be asking for Gru/Kuemper numbers in just two years time.

It wouldn't be one year though. It would be two years remaining at $3M and yes, having to try and unload $6M in cap dump money would be very hard to move for a team with a trash prospect pool and only 8 draft picks total in the next 2 years.

This coming year might be a rebound year for: Vegas, NYI, Montreal, and the longer rebound with Ottawa

Another thing to consider regarding term with Georgiev is that Francouz is an UFA in 2 years. Ideally you don't have both goalies expiring the same year again.

If Georgiev hasn't taken the starters role by the horns in the next two years the Avs could bring in another goalie to be 1A/1B while phasing Georgiev into a backup role in year 3. He'd be expensive for a backup for one uear, but if the other goalie is another Grubauer sort at $3.33m that's manageable.
