Contending teams simply don't have the cap space to make those types of deals right now, an issue exacerbated by the flat cap. Things will start heating up in mid-January.

They may realize they're sellers long before they can make a move. It sounds like people think trade value of the UFAs is plunging with every game, which it is not. They aren't going to move any contracts with term. It'll be guys they can sell at the deadline and they should have good assets to sell between ROR, Tarasenko, Barbashev, Mikkola, Acciari and Greiss. But they're not going to make a move just to vent feelings.

I hope we lose every game and trade away all the UFA’s. It’s going to be a painful few years, but it needs to be done.

Agreed.

This team will be brutally painful to watch if they let the FAs walk for nothing. I'm not sold on a ROR extension ageing particularly a la Bergeron either. I'm thinking he'd be the next Steen - overpaid for a depth leadership role, unable to live up to fan expectations. He'd be the new Cam Ranford before the end of the 2nd year of said hypothetical extension, taking constant flak for his mistakes.

Send the man out a St Louis legend, don't keep him here til he's old and toothless.

Yea, the difference b/t Montgomery and McTavish has been night and day. Montgomery is a really good coach, Dallas was a crazy good team under him, he did great here as an assistant, and now Boston is kicking ass. The dude wins no matter where he goes - I'm glad that he could wrestle and defeat his demons and allow his talent to shine.

Speaking of special teams - can we please stop putting Tarasenko on his strong side on the PP? The PP is so obvious and stagnant when he's on that side. Our PP flourished the day we put Perron on that point and told Tarasenko to suck it up - we need to do the same thing again. Kyrou or Thomas needs to be on the PP1 off-side, with Schenn or Tarasenko on the other.

Goal

Saad

ROR

Thomas Schenn

Krug

This should be the PP1 and the PP2 should swap Thomas for Kyrou, Schenn for Tarasenko, Krug for Faulk, ROR for Buch, and Saad for Barby. The PP should run through the top with our D man having two one-time options and then get the puck to Thomas or Kyrou and let them try and set up either one of the good shooting left handed options that have one-timers available.

Seems pretty simple, but oh well.

We need people to practice one timers on the PP. Like whats the point of a PP QB like Krug if you're not going to shoot the mother f***er when he dishes it?
Agreed with this. So many prime chances for one timers getting passed up. Also need to stop putting Tarasenko on the left wall.

There's nothing they can or really should do for the moment. Guys the Blues could sell include ROR & Tarasenko who both scored tonight, Acciari is having a good start, Mikkola will be valued like Jacob Middleton, Barbashev is a depth middle sixer with Cup experience for a team that wants to bolster itself. Greiss is a super well known quantity. Those guys will still be valuable even if they are mired in a crappy situation. They could reasonably add two 1sts, two 2ds, maybe two 3ds depending on how Greiss is playing.

But, we are going to have to wait until early March to get those picks and for the next 35-36 games these are the guys we are going to see.

Right now the Blues .440 is the 7th overall pick near .438 Ottawa (#6) and .442 Philadelphia (#8) after their win tonight.

I do kind of wonder if Army accepts a close to bottom 5 finish or if Berube wouldn't be able to survive that.
