2022-2023 Around The League

I think I saw a stat today that through the Avs' first 2 games they are bottom five in xGF%. Obviously very small sample size but the Avs' play at 5v5 has been largely uninspiring thus far.

If it continues tonight I think the Wild will eat us alive. They've been able to score they just haven't been able to get a save from either goaltender.

When you go 50% 5v5 xGF% against a horrendous Blackhawk team, you know things aren’t off to a good start.

Doesn’t help when your #2C is rocking a mid-20’s xGF%.

The forward core reminds me a lot of the 17/18 and 18/19 teams. Gonna be pretty reliant on 9296 this year.

Fortunately the defense is comfortably the best in the league.

Monahan looks good so far and he centers Dach.

Habs got a 1st just to take Monahan off Calgary's hands. It's early but it will suck if he keeps playing like that because right now he looks like a legit 2C.

Imagine getting a 27yo 2C + a 1st for free
The injury questions are pretty big with Monahan... even if he looks good (and he is to start the season), his back is a ticking time bomb. Getting locked into a deal with him would be dangerous. That said, if he plays well, he could be a target for a number of teams looking for middle 6 center help. ~3.1m for a capable middle 6 center has good value at the deadline... if he stays healthy.

It'll look better after beating the shit out of Minnesota

So Avs are good defensively but bad offensively. Nothing surprising, especially considering Landeskog's injury. The only real surprise has been....Landy's injury.

It's not the group you want to be lumped in with that's for sure. Time will tell if this team can start to creep up towards the upper echelon or if the depth has truly been that depleted losing Kadri and Burakovsky.
Kadri hurt obviously, but Bura was merely a product of Nuke and Kadri.

Strongly disagree. He's not a play driving wizard by any means but Burakovsky is tremendous at zone entries with possession. He complemented Kadri/Nichushkin as much as they complemented him.

I will never understand this board's disdain for Burakovsky.

I hope you display as much empathy toward the countless women who were sexualty assaulted and were shamefully abandoned by the justice system...
Yes. Especially those assaulted by scumbags and career criminals who lawfully got out of jail. The system failed to protect them.

Lol Charles Barkleys make more money talking than 99% of the NHL playing.
There is no one in the world of NA sports who brings what Chuck does to a broadcast. I don't even watch the NBA much and know he is pretty much irreplaceable. Of course TNT gave him a blank check...

The NHL will always be in 4th place of the NA sports and I don't know why fans care so much about it.

The disdain stems from all the plays he killed in the offensive zone. I'll give you the zone entries. He was very skilled at that, but he was definitely the weak link on that line and that's why he was replaced with Lehky In the playoffs, even when healthy.

This should also apply to the countless perpetrators who never set foot in prison due to a justice system that actively works against accusers.
That's a significantly better system than the opposite. It should be hard to send someone to jail.

Sending innocent people in prison is a lot worse than criminals getting away with crimes.

^ Fully agree with that point actually. Prison should be used to keep dangerous offenders away from the vulnerable public, not to fulfill some revenge fantasy. Justice system should be restorative not punitive.

I have 0 clue if Cole did what was accused. And I agree that a random twitter post shouldn't be able to ruin a career. But lets not act like rape victims are treated well by society and especially not by the judicial system.

What do you mean "some revenge fantasy?" And you can picture the justice system in any way you want, but ever since the rise of the prison industrial complex it has served as little more than an excuse to profit, not restore. But that's another subject entirely.

I think Lehky probably replaces most if not all of Bura's offense from last year at this point. He's already meshing extremely well on that Top line and his net front presence should get him 20 Goals and 50+ points playing with Mack and/or Mikko I think. And obviously his two way game is far better then Bura's.

Bura was quite a bit better at holding onto the puck and creating a bit of space for his linemates. Sometimes it would get frustrating because he wouldn't do anything productive with it, but it was still a real skill he possessed that Lehky wont replace(And quite frankly nobody will by the looks of ERod and Newhook's starts).

All in all I think Bura/Lehky for a full season will mostly be a wash. Burky by the way is off to a real nice start with Seattle, 1G and 4 points in his first 3 games.

The point is there's no perfect justice system. Reverting to middle age witch-hunting and condemning people based on hearsays certainly isn't a viable alternative.
