I think Avs may have broken Tampa
Tampa is a shell of the team compared to a couple years ago... cap is finally getting to them and it shows. They are not a legit contender this year or maybe next 2-3 years (where there is a very good chance they don't re-tool). I think their window is simply over.

Eichel looks back to normal... if he plays as a high end 1C, Vegas can be dangerous again.

Vegas out-chanced L.A 49-23 and had more high danger chances 21-13. Sweet home opener, Los Angeles.

If that's a sign of things to come, the Kings are in trouble. Vegas doesn't scare me because of their goaltending. Logan Thompson seems like a decent guy but he's not good enough, and I don't believe they'll be healthy all year (hello, Mark Stone).

Neither team scares me from last night's west matchup. Rangers looked good, though.

Tampa Bay's roster is showing the effects of three straight trips to the SCF + the salary cap. This bottom six:

Koepke - Namestnikov - Colton
Maroon - Bellemare - Perry

and that 3rd pairing of Fleury - Myers is disgusting. Hell, a 2nd line of Killorn - Paul - Hagel is hideous. They're going to need Vasilevskiy to carry them this season.

Vasi looked amazing last night. He could be up for MVP if he plays like that every game.

LA completely whiffed on their top picks (Byfield/Turcotte). They don’t scare me at all and not sure why anyone thinks they will take a step forward while their best players enter their mid 30’s. They will be starting over on that rebuild in 2-3 years

I learned a lot from the TSN season preview show. Most notably that in the last 3-4 months, McJesus has significantly improved his defensive play and he's also for sure going to score 50 goals while Jack Campbell is likely going to win the Vezina (despite THAT defense)...

Most of them picked the Avs to repeat so we are screwed! :sarcasm:

I don't imagine they will enter the playoffs with Thompson as their #1 unless he is just spectacular this year.

Cirelli getting back in the lineup will help Tampa, but they just don't have the depth anymore and a number of the top guys are at the aging cliff where the bottom could fall out. I think they will be solid and a dangerous playoff team... I don't see them as a legit contender unless Vasi goes full Vasi in the playoffs.

I don't see a team that could potentially miss the playoffs that has a goalie able to move the needle for Vegas.

Anaheim won't give them Gibson
Reimer ain't it
Mrazek ain't it
Winnipeg won't give them Hellebuyck
Blackwood ain't it
Nedeljkovic ain't it
Allen ain't it

The only team I can see is the Islanders moving Varlamov, but they wouldn't move him to the Oilers (or he said no, who knows) last season so I can't imagine them moving him to Vegas this season.

I think the central division was the one weakened the most overall in the off season. The fre agent players in/players out was a significant negative. It will be very interesting to follow these teams this year relative to the rest of the league.
I agree with previous posters about TB too. Who is gonna score on their 2/3 and 4th lines? Cirellu is due back but he isn't a scorer either. Fluery, Myers and Foote didn't look good last night on d either. Have they regressed to just being a tough out in the playoffs?
