With Jost gone who will Avs fans complain about every day in every thread if Compher is traded?

Scapegoats are incredibly important.

Jost, Compher, and EJ were the scapegoat trinity, so I'm assuming that it moves onto EJ, or, more accurately, EJ's caphit as the reason we can't have nicer things.

Thanks, I appreciate you weighing in.

How much of Dvorak's numbers declining do you think is due to him, and how much due to Montreal being a tire fire overall? He's still only 26 so I have a hard time believing that he's suddenly just dropped off a cliff in the middle of his prime. Arizona were admittedly never a great team when he was there either, but Montreal have been horrific this year. Playing on a team with an elite transition D like the Avs would be light and day compared to that.

Whatever the case if the Avs do target him they would be leaning pretty heavily on their pro scouts because the analytics/numbers aren't really there as you said.
I think the whole Dvorak thing for me anyways, is how adamant coyotes fans were last year that Dvorak was a great player - just waiting to breakout - being stilfled under Rick Tocchet's coaching. They kept peddling him to the Avs for an overpayment and a lot of Avs fans kept telling them the value was off considering his bloated contract. This whole "he's ready to breakout" nonsense just didn't pass the eye test and we played them a lot last year.

Sure enough he gets traded to the Habs and again, it's the coaching that's apparently holding him back? I don't think he's terrible but I also don't think he's anything special. When you consider his contract - I personally hope the Avs want nothing to do with that guy even with 50% retention. Not a big fan of that guy and being stuck with him for 4 years doesn't sound appealing to me.

The Islanders have been extremely quiet so far. I wonder what's the plan there for the next 24 hrs. Their team is super old and is going to miss the playoffs, not a good combo.

What is it about Arizona vs Colorado that brings out the goon in players?
Probably because the players got to play golf that day and since playing golf is surest thing to piss you off in the world you see what happens that night.

They have started playing well lately so I'm sure Lou is thinking I just need to run some version of this back next year.

Don’t see why they’d add another defenceman. You can only spend so many assets and when healthy they’re looking at having one of Girard, Byram, or Manson on their 3rd pair.

I think you want to be 8 defenceman deep entering the playoffs and imo, the Avs have that.

Makar
Toews
Girard
Manson
Byram
Murray
EJ
JJ

And Makar/Toews are definitely playing 25+ a night in the playoffs. The only way those guys are around 22/23 is if it’s a blowout.

I absolutely want a legit 3rd liner though. I don’t mind the Avs getting a little out-depthed by a team in the playoffs, but i don’t want want to see it be a complete mismatch against clubs with great bottom-6’s.

Myers clears waivers and Mrazek is on waivers.

Riley Nash as well, an interesting name that I could see being claimed. That's some free forward depth and a faceoff guy for somebody.

They only have lower-tier UFA's (ie. Parise, Clutterbuck, Chara, Greene) so they'll probably be a team that sees more action late on deadline day when teams circle back to them after striking out on other targets.

Forgot to add - if you are unsure, go have a look at how quickly Habs fans are ready to JETTISON this guy to try and recup what they paid to get him. Another 3 years after this one at $4.45M - no thanks.

Despite what anyone wants to throw out there as a trade I think this is pretty much what Joe is thinking. Guys like JJ and Murray are the types he would have traded for right now if he didn't get them during the offseason. He's hopeful he gets something out of Bo. The 3rd and 4th lines could use an upgrade, but maybe, just maybe, the lack of contribution from Soda last year pointed out the fallacy of getting just any old veteran you think might fit in. He clearly cares about fit since he seemed to like guys that were around before, but the skill set of Sturm compared to Jost was just too good to pass on.
