It's deeper than the coaches in Laval though. Talent needs to play with talent so what center is a good fit for Slaf in the AHL? Last thing we need is Slaf trying to be a puck possession winger in the AHL cause he lacks confidence in who he is playing with.
Which then bring us to who has his junior right if anyone? Can playing the rest of the year in junior if a good team has his rights be the answer? Or just keeping him in the NHL and hoping for the best. It's not like he is going to get to play a lot with Suzuki in Montreal.

Galchenyuk had enough ice time to do well, and he did do well, improving until he was ppg for 46 games, and then his knee injury.

The fans were frustrated because they wanted a center, and the DumbassGM told everyone that we could not get any by trade, cuz this isn't Playstation. So we hoped he was the one, even though his whole life he was used as a LW more than a C.

Nothing to do with sending him to the AHL (which we were not allowed to do) or to continue in Junior at 2 ppg.

Galch's ice time:
12.31 minutes his rookie year
14.40 minutes his 2nd year
16 minutes or more after that.
Never healthy scratched.

This wasn't Shane Wright usage, or Victor Mete sheltering.
True I still think moving him around from center to winger was the main issue and not trusting him to becoming a good center that played both ways which they seem to expect from an 18-20 year old who was always the offensive guy.

That player has 7 goals in 9 games, I think it’s the right call
OK, but not many of those seven are on breakouts from the left side in our own zone. In fact, Three of the seven are from the right side in the offensive zone.

But it's not only about Caufield. It's being done to Monahan, Armia, Anderson, Pitlick, Hoffman, Dadonov, Drouin, even Gallagher at times - and none of them have 7 goals. Three (not including Armia) even have zero.

I'm staying out of it as much as I can. I'm going to let Gorton/Hughes/MSL do their jobs. I trust them more than I trust myself.

Hey not like we have a say. We can discuss what we hope they do etc. I mean if they fell that the best place for him is all year in the NHL with StLouis as his coach I will trust them I mean he worked wonders on Caufield's confidence and production after he arrived.

Why is it the last thing we need for him to learn how to get/keep/maintain possession of puck on North American ice? If anything, that's one of the first things he needs with how little he touches the puck. Positioning shouldn't be hard to teach in NHL, actually practicing with puck? No chance that happens in NHL.

Cause he is not a Gaudreau type winger. He's not going to skate around guys in circles. Not his style of game. He needs a good center to work with.

Better puck protection with this body/frame can improve yes. But don't confuse this being a puck possession winger.

He’s a monster. I do shift to shift reviews of Top-5 picks of the past 5 years and he’s in a league of his own. Everyone has a lot of “off” shifts. He’s always “on”, creating opportunities, hustling hard.
He plays bigger than his size.

He's been getting better, which is something that's been said about him all along. He did the same thing at the Olympics.

He doesn't look out of place and has himself a couple of goals, and not ones of the cheap variety either.

All in all, I'm very satisfied with him so far as someone who really wanted Wright.

Most AHL phenoms can’t adapt to the NHL because they’re experts at making better use of the extra reaction time in the AHL, even better than good NHLers. Patrick O’Sullivan and Darren Haydar for example. But they can’t play with the reduced time and space of the NHL.

Slafkofsky is so big, heavy, strong, speedy, aggressive and has such a long reach that he has much more time and space than other NHL players from the get go. What’s the point of slowing down the game even more for him?

An big decision is coming for Hughes. What is interesting is that MSL's opinion on where Slaf should play is going to be biased. At the moment Slafkovsky is an important factor in making the Habs win. The team is 4-2 with him and 1-2 without and plays with a lot more swagger when he's in. I find that Slaf brings a lot of emotions to the Habs and this is a team that runs of emotion. If Hughes has to decide what's best for Slafkovsky's development, he'll know that MSL will say it's best to keep him in the NHL

With the Anderson-Dvorak-Gallagher and Caufield-Suzuki-Dach lines rolling, Slafkovsky adds an unusual level of offensive threat from the 4th line and makes the Habs offence much more potent. MSL's wants to win games and Slaf obviously plays an important factor into that

His slapper also opens the possibility to try him at the point. It's hella risky to put a rookie forward here but Slaf shooting arsenal from the point is maybe third to Caufield's and Suzuki's who already have their roles. One step at a time I guess

First thing that impressed me was his IQ. He sees the ice really well and sends laser passes. Even his saucers are laser. Then he started to get the forecheck (Evans is good a exploiting that).

Yes his one hand was annoying, but he's starting to understand when he can use it. On his first goal, he did a one hand stick check and retrieved the puck (before shooting it).

Now add his power shot from last night and wow....

He's the real deal.

Yeah, after watching this clip, its obvious that this kid needs to be sent down to Laval.

It's not obvious. But we know what you think though. I think this "send him to AHL" is getting to obsessive.

Personally, I don't hate or love what I see. I like it for now.

It's a process. There will be ups and downs along the way and we can't dwell on either of them. Best development for Slaf is for him to fly under the radar and allow Gorton/Hughes/MSL to do their jobs and Slaf gains momentum and confidence as the season moves along.

I'm not quite certain if you got my tongue-in-cheek approach to this pivotal issue of our time.

He will most probably hit a wall. Maybe not this year, since he already played 70+ games last year so the long season won't be a new thing (and he's a big boy, so easier physically). Maybe next year, the famous second year slump.

But yeah, how he'll react in the down will be important. But from what we've seen during the training camp, he takes criticism really well.

One of the things I think we drafted him was his ability to adapt and be open to development coaching. We really need to consider that most growth happens from age 18-21 and you only draft kids from their age 14-17 years where you try to project their growth forward.

If Slaf is committed and is willing to put the work in the right areas. He's going to turn out fine.
