Imo he's more skilled than Anderson. Anderson is a 20/40 player. Unless Slaf has out of ice issues he'll become a 30/60 player.

That’s what i think also for Slaf.

I don’t even think Anderson is a 20/40 player he never did it once in his career (yes he has a 27 goals season).

Not the same level of players, Slaf is better at everything.

Our boy!

I found an example of a recent, offensive, highly touted young players who played in the WJCs after making the NHL.

Dylan Cozens, he went 7th overall in 2019, and played in the 2020 and 2021 WJCs.

I have no idea if it was good for his development.

I find the point of this discussion to be rather silly as no player ever develops over a short tournament........I know that people on this board have this delusional fanboy perspective with regards to development that is not based in reality and this conversation is a prime example.

Not barking at you as I am often on the same page but this conversation is a waste of your time.

If one wanted to argue that a strong tournament could be a confidence booster that could ignite and expedite a shorter path to the same/similar developmental destination then I would support such a claim.

In 2020 Cozens played in the WHL so of course he would go to the WJC as an 18 year old and benefit.

In 2020-21 he played for TCJ and had a dominant performance! However, it was before the NHL season started. It hardly had a big impact in Buffalo though; he still scored only 4 goals in Buffalo in the 41 games. Slaf already has 4 goals in 19 games and is a year younger.

There is no similar reason to send Slaf to the WJC. If he were not good enough for the NHL (but he easily is), the place to play would be Laval.

As for Cozens, the fact that he is breaking out this year at 21 is arguably attributable more to the full year he worked in the bigs last year, rather than the two weeks in the WJC two years ago.

Imagine that - playing in the NHL can make you better.

I don't actually know what the impact would be, or claim to know, I just wanted to know if there are examples that are relevant, in other words not Victor Mete. But Baseball Coach has pointed out that even this example is not relevant, it was a scheduling artifact.

I don"t think any of the first overall forwards played in the WJC after they were already playing in the NHL. But if I'm wrong, I'm open to being shown the exceptions.

After starting in the NHL? I can’t think of any, however Power probably could had made the Sabres (but chose NCAA) after getting picked. He did participate in the WJC after getting drafted.

And if Power had played for the Sabres that first year, he probably would not have participated in the WJC.

Easy prediction...Wright scores his first NHL goal against the Habs
Or —- as Slaf somehow catches up to Wright in OT to stop his breakaway —- poof! they unite for the power of good and cure cancer or move the Leafs to Utah or something.
