Slaf had a good game, but I feel like some people read way to much into a breakaway post than they should
I mean he's gonna score 100 points now that he finally made some space for himself off the rush after 20 games!!! Haha love slaf but yeah people are being ridiculous with the 100point comments

I think the upside is Rantanen. Big, physical 35-40 goal / 80 pt goal winger who can also distribute. Worse case scenario is I think maybe 30 goal, 60 pt winger which is still a nice 2nd line player with size
I'm interested in hearing you elaborate on why you choose Rantananen as a comparable to Slaf's upside.

To be clear, I'm not arguing he can't, but from what I've seen so far, Slaf hasn't shown traits of the elite playmaking vision Rantanen has. So I'm interested in hearing your take.

Amen

Lefebvre sure didn't help anyone, but Leblanc never had any stand-out skill. Like it or not, if he wasn't from here and if the draft's not in Montreal that year, no way in hell we pick him at that spot.

His ceiling potential was Niklas Sundstrom. And that's being generous.

LL was picked at the exact spot Central
Scouting had him ranked

Doesn’t mean he’s a skilled hockey player. Or a Timmins type of player.
LL was actually the ideal Habs type player (200 ft, defensively responsible etc.), it was Kreider who was a non prototypical Habs type

He had 10 pts in 31 games last year in Liiga. He has 6 pts in 18 games in the NHL so far.

If JD Lagrange says it then it must be right.

Slaf is on pace for a sub-30 point season. He needs a few multipoint games with Moneyhands Monahan to kick his production up to a higher gear.

For a, 18 years old, first year in NA, first year with a 82 games season. It's more than fine so far.

There aren’t many 18 year old forwards who start in the NHL but of those who do, Slaf’s PPG at this point (0.34) is in the lower 20%.

It doesn’t mean anything much about his future but it would be nice to see him finish with 45pts+ wouldn’t it? He’s the 1OA! You tank for these players.

I’d like to see him fed more minutes if he’s physically capable of playing it.

He was playing limited minutes with Pezzetta and Evans. Caufield could not produce either on the 4th line. The team wanted him to improve his overall game and not focus on scoring because of how raw he was.

Go check Jack Hugues and Lafreniere 1 season total points 😁🤣

This. And context matters. If Montreal only cared about him racking up points, they would put him next to Caufield and Suzuki. This line would get crushed in its zone since Slaf is not ready for 1st line duties but Slaf would easily have 10-12 points and be on pace for 45-50 pts.

Although I question playing Slaf with scrubs, this is not the proper way to develop either.

Look at Ottawa. People start complaining about Stutzle’s D game

The scientific term for MSL' line-making situation is that it is "over constrained" or "overdetermined". He cannot fulfill everything at once.

- Develop Suzuki, Caulfield, Dach, Slafkovsky;
- Develop Guhle, Harris, Xhekaj;
- Maximize the trade value of Drouin, Dadonov, Edmundson, Savard, Monahan, Dvorak;
- Win some games;
- Hold the room, which means some time for Gallagher, Armia, probably

Can't be done.

With more depth Slaf would have played with better players in the bottom six.

The last 20 games have done good to Slaf too. If you remember his camp, it wasn’t pretty. He seems less lost in his zone.

Slaf is on pace for Hughes and Laf’s output. So is it funny? I dunno. Today Laf is trending toward bust status btw.

There is a middle ground between languishing on the 4th line and stapled to the stars.

Well, it doesn't take Lagrange to remember people complained about his lack of production last year in Liiga as a reason Slaf isn't the right choice. And the fact he's about to match his goals and total production in a better league is also there for everyone to see.

Playing with Moneyhands definitely gives Slaf better chances of kicking his production up. I don't know why he was with Evans and Pez for as long as he was. If last game is any indication of what Slaf will be like more consistently the rest of the year, his production will kick up.

But he's currenty on pace for 26 pts, but 17 goals in 77 games. Not bad for an 18-year old rookie coming over from Europe. In terms of PPG, he's on a similar pace to former 1st OA Hughes & Lafreniere. In terms of goals, Hischier & Svech had 20 their rookie years, and Tkachuk had 22. So he's not far from their goal scoring production when they were rookies.

He's been producing in line with his usage.

Dude, when you come in this thread on a game by game basis to downplay anything, literally anything Slaf does, you come off as wanting him to fail. Why? Because you want to be right on the internet? What’s your point here man? Like, it’s just really irritating.
