Not necessarily. In a vacuum you are right.

We don’t know how Wright would’ve developed had he been selected 1st overall (being passed over 3 times could’ve had a huge motivational impact).

Also just because he scores 100pts doesn’t necessarily mean he’s better than a 70pts Slafkovsky. In a vacuum, sure. But if Wright puts up 90-100pts a year and doesn’t win anything of substance in his career while Slaf puts up 70 and helps us win a cup no one will care.
Well said!

Stevenson had zero puck skills, one of many big but terrible players the habs drafted. Slaf won’t be that bad and Stevenson had a reasonable career.
Really big guy. Once in a while he’d stuff the puck in the net with his long stick. Fans loved him.

He was even drafted 12OA. Just goes to show the value teams put on very big guys with limited hockey skills.

Ferraro himself is not accurately rendering Hughes’ comments. Hughes only said “a bit” underwhelming, which is not as impactful a comment.

I think Hughes’ level of transparency and his often, raw, direct comments are refreshing but whenever a GM gives the slightest negative appreciation about his own players, even one based on factual observation, you can bet that there will always be opportunists and exaggerators to blow it out of proportion.

Ferraro should be happy — this is exactly the type of sound byte that will help his channel gain a greater following. He’s also responding to his co-host who is urging you, to what else, “listen to the interview”.

I'm really not happy.

I wanted and was expecting to see Slaf tonight.

Oh well, still looking forward to seeing Beck center the TOP line with Drouin and Hoffman!, Mesar center the 3rd line! and Guhle, Harris.. and Matheson-Barron pairing!

Oh, and, let's see how Primeau rebounds after his horrible goals allowed last game, smh.

How is picking Slaf over Wright even remotely similar to NJD taking Nico ?

We took a project winger with the 1OA when there was a franchise center on the board imo.

And why are they not similar ? Both were picked in the same position and its exactly the scenario you're describing where there's a significant discrepancy between both players.

I think Europe is just too far, and habs don't have enough control over such a valuable asset...
Could be but I am sure if Slaf is next Puljujarvi or next Rantanen. Seen a lot of first round picks in camp before they were more advanced than Slaf. Then again the Latrendesses, McCarrons, and Wards looked great in camp, but never made it

I think if he dropped 25lbs would help quickness. You don't need a ton of muscle mass in pro hockey. Mario was one of greatest ever, couldn't bench press 120lbs his first camp.

I think it's way too early to speculate on this, tbh.

I think he just had bad games (for him) or off games you could say, it could all be nerves, too.

He may have been nervous, etc and it affected how he played. The mental part (confidence) is huge.

In the rookies tournament he made some really nice plays and showed great flashes.

In the 2 pre-season games he looked way too reactive and flat footed. We just saw him hustle af a few short weeks ago in rookies tournament. I think that's mental.

Need to see more...

Stevenson’s best season was with the Devils.

If we played Slaf all year, as a floor, he could produce that much. Around 10 goals, 27 points. Because Slafkovsky is superior to Stevenson at everything.
No doubt in my mind that Slaf can produce at a higher pace than that as soon as this year. If he makes the team, what I think he will, they are going to play him with offensive players and use him on a PP wave.

For alot of people, the standarts are pretty low right now and thats a good thing.

He mentioned Mesar and Beck as standouts, who play a "pro game".

No mention of Slaf at all.
It must mean he hates him, thinks he sucks and he's gonna be a bust.

Good find.

Not great to hear from your captain. But Slaf has performed under what I thought. I get he is 18. But so are Beck and Mesar. Who have looked much better.

I am thinking is it better to send Slaf to Laval or Europe?
He also didn't mention the Pope...he must hate Catholics.

Never seen Slaf drop them So I’ll hold judgement ;) Agreed on how cemented big Turner’s hands were!

It's almost like he wasn't comfortable playing on his wrong side....

Neither Beck nor Mesar are being made to do that.
