So you're saying its perfectly normal that his friend is so much better offensively?
Your words, not what I saw. Although Mesar is quite skilled, I wouldn't say he was so much better offensively.

With NHL scoring talent on his line, Slafkovsky would have around 8 assists in three games.

Wrong, Jagr was overwhelmingly considered the best prospect of his draft class, AND better than the 1st overall pick of the previous year, which was Mats Sundin.

Teams didn't take him because they thought he wouldn't come.

Sounds like a bunch of horse manure to me

I have no idea why some of you try to paint a picture of Slaf like he's Erik Lindros out there.

Most of the comments i have heard from the members of the organisation is that he's a very good PROJECT with good tools and with a high upside. None of them have said that he's ready to play in the NHL. I think you're all expecting him to be something he's currently not, a calder candidate.

If you believe this guy can play in the NHL right now the way he is... you'll be vastly disappointed. You will be the first ones to call him out a bust. This guy needs a ton of technical work to be ready for the 1st line duties. If they play him in the NHL right now, don't be surprised if you see him camping in front of the net 70% of the time. Marty will not be able to help him because he's missing fundamentals or (im sorry to suggest this) he's too slow in the head to grasp the concepts they teach him.

Think about this, Mesar and Slaf are both 18 years old, both are friends and both played together.... why is Mesar so much better skill wise/decision making? Mesar has 2 goals and Slaf has none...doesn't it worry you a bit?
Oh god! Now Mesar is better because he scored two goals in rookie camp?! Spewing nonsense!

Good thing you're not a scout

Mesar is a league above Slaf when it comes to skills, its a fact

Actually. Jagr wanted to go to Pittsburgh. He told all teams that he would be going back home for a couple of more seasons, except to the Pens. He told them if they drafted him he would be in Pittsburgh the next day. And the rest is history.

No, but you do.

You were able to distinguish this from 2 prospect hockey games?

And even if that's true, who cares if he's "so much better offensively" today.

They didn't draft him for today.

He is not a league above Slafkovsky. That’s what YOU believe, not necessarily the reality.

Why wasn’t he taken top 3 if he was in a league of his own?

No, but you do.

I know they dint but some people trying to pretend he's better than Jagr....

I love him as a pick but he needs to develop his hockey game

Mesar looked better vs kids, but vs men in the NHL, at least right now, Slaf would look better IMO. Mesar needs a few years as an undersized player. And maybe Mesar, in terms of pure skills, is better, but it doesn't mean he can pull it off in the NHL, whereas Slaf will 100% be able to handle the physical load of the NHL. It's not always about pure skills, you also have to look at the whole package.

IMO Mesar was a terrific pick and surely one of the most skilled player in the draft, but you can't deny the fact that he is small. He has a lot to overcome.

I mean lol it goes without saying. The main appeal with picking him was that he has a lot of room to improve his game.

But I really don't think it serves a purpose to try to overanalyze these prospect games. It doesn't mean anything.

Sometimes all you have to do is just sit back and enjoy the hockey. Not everything has to be analyzed.

Hell, if it makes you feel better.

Imagine the Habs picked Mesar #1 and Slaf #26.

I don’t recall that in the least. Nedved was getting all kinds of hype and if memory serves so did Keith Primeau.

I think - note: think - Nolan was somewhat of a surprise number one. I think it was supposed to go Nedved, Primeau, Nolan…

The idea of Visa issues given the proximity to the Cold War was a real thing and it may have affected selection but I doubt that given that…That type of thinking doesn’t isolate itself amongst GMs. There is an element of consensus- they’re getting comparatively similar information. Pittsburgh using pick #5 speaks to an unlikelihood that coming over was a ever a real fear.

Logan Cooley, Nazar, Savoie, ect ect… are all the same size as Mesar.
Since you're bringing this to the table.

I believe the NHL wanted Wright to go to Seattle, Habs made a deal with the NHL to not draft Wright and in exchange they would get reassurance that Mesar would still be available at position no26.

Some scouting sites were placing Mesar at 9th place so essentially (in this scenario) the habs exchanged their 1st OA pick for a 4th and a "top10" pick. If you think about it, it can make sense, Slaf was projected to be gone at position no4.

Never seen someone dickride a freshly drafted 26th overall this hard before

I was pumped for the Subban pick and i'm pumped for this pick. I'm also very excited for Beck but he wants to go back to the OHL

You don't realize it yet but this draft might be our best draft for the coming years.

And you call others delusional... wow

They do once in a blue moon but you may as well spend your entire life worrying he may tear is ACL while training. It's not a reasonable worry anymore IMO. The game is just too different.

Tearing your ACL while training is something that can happen. Unfortunate, but it happens.

Skating to the middle of the ice with your head down is not an unfortunate accident. It's leaving yourself vulnerable for someone else to hurt you.

Yes you were right once in 15 years, that surely means you're 100% right this time around too.

For the record, I was one of the few pumped withMesar and I'd rather have him than Kulich. But these takes... I just can't!
