He definitely does. His positioning and iq without the puck need a lot of work. He doesn’t look NHL ready at this point. We will see what he does and if he gets 9 games and is able to adjust. With the puck he’s pretty good most of the time. There’s a lot of tools. I can’t reconcile this pick just yet, it still feels like a bad decision to me, but I hope to be wrong.

We're just unlucky or cursed. It was a legitimately bad draft year and now everybody wants to hype a player who would've not been 1OA in any other draft year.

That's fine, we should embrace what we have and not stress about it but the problem is many are now all-in on Slafokvsky as the Messiah and will fight any criticism of him no matter how mild.
Please.. and I mean PLEASE.. either give up on the Habs, or stop talking! You are EVERYTHING people hate about Habs fans!

No his positioning and iq is fine. D

Why can‘t he state his opinion on a public forum ?
Go back and read every one of his opinions.. nothing but negativity and unproductive commentary of how Slafkovsky/Dach etc etc etc etc... All terrible moves by the Habs.. none of which are substantiated by useful facts.. never watched Slaf watch a game.. he's a CLOWN! Simple and easy!

Slaf...for sure he was playing. I did see his number. He was out there. Number 20. He had shifts. He did skate. He did touch the puck.

I'm not going to comment on his "abilities" because it may upset some people and possibly make other people cry. One observation, either he likes deep breathing exercises when he gets to the bench or needs to do suicides until his feet bleed.

Wow... some of you are really like: "yeah, slaf is a raw player, he is a work in progress, is an uncut gem..."

And then post this.

Slaf is a better player than Jagr at the same age

Wrong, Jagr was overwhelmingly considered the best prospect of his draft class, AND better than the 1st overall pick of the previous year, which was Mats Sundin.

Teams didn't take him because they thought he wouldn't come.

Sure he does. IQ is not his strength, nor has it ever been. He continually makes poor decisions.
That's the usual ploy. Say it Three million times and it will be seen as true. I failed to see him continually male poor decisions. We're watching different games, no doubt.

Stay on message, though. It should attract some gullible followers.

He clearly doesn't have the highest IQ, but he doesn't need that. Ovechkin doesn't have the highest IQ neither, and he was one of the greatest players of all-time.

All he needs is work to keep the initiative without making too many turnovers. He's a high-energy type player who needs to take risk to make things happen. Just have to find the right balance, which will come by making mistakes and boneheaded plays repeatedly until he intuits the right ratio, and with the help of coaches.

I have no idea why some of you try to paint a picture of Slaf like he's Erik Lindros out there.

Most of the comments i have heard from the members of the organisation is that he's a very good PROJECT with good tools and with a high upside. None of them have said that he's ready to play in the NHL. I think you're all expecting him to be something he's currently not, a calder candidate.

If you believe this guy can play in the NHL right now the way he is... you'll be vastly disappointed. You will be the first ones to call him out a bust. This guy needs a ton of technical work to be ready for the 1st line duties. If they play him in the NHL right now, don't be surprised if you see him camping in front of the net 70% of the time. Marty will not be able to help him because he's missing fundamentals or (im sorry to suggest this) he's too slow in the head to grasp the concepts they teach him.

Think about this, Mesar and Slaf are both 18 years old, both are friends and both played together.... why is Mesar so much better skill wise/decision making? Mesar has 2 goals and Slaf has none...doesn't it worry you a bit?

I do believe in that, however I have to say I thought Slafkovsky was somewhat average. I was expecting more physical dominance from him. He seemed like he wasn't sure what kind of game he should play. He passed too much and didn't dominate physically like he needs to. You can see he's a good skater and pretty good with the puck, but I have to admit, I was somewhat disappointed.
Now, I get that it's 2 games but I would've like to have seen him stand out more. It's not all about points in this tournament, but I think he got 1 assist on 10 goals. Not sure he starts in the NHL this year. Nothing wrong with that though. I trust they drafted the right guy.
Again though, they need to draft high in the right years.
Slafkovsky seemed to concentrate too much on setting up his team mates, but, that, he did with aplomb. He regularly seemed to know where a line mate would be and was able to put the puck there, even through traffic and with a player or two hanging on his back.

He didn't wow us, for sure, but I thought he was solid on most shifts.

Not in the least. Your assertions are based on little to nothing and ride the line called farcical.

The only thing I agree with in that exposé is that fans should not expect Slafkovsky to win the calder if he plays immediately at the NHL level and they should be patient before calling him a bust if he doesn't win that trophy.

The too slow in the head comments are plain stupidity.

If he doesn’t make the roster does he go to Laval or back to Europe?
Trois-Rivières ;)

So you're saying its perfectly normal that his friend is so much better offensively?

I saw a few blind passes. I'm not saying he was bad but I didn't think he stood out as much as he should have. Put it this way, if there was 1 spot on the Habs available, and I had to pick based on this tournament, I'd have Slafkovsky 4th, maybe 5th. I know age is a thing of course. Even leaving out Heineman and Mysak because they're older, I thought Mesar and Beck stood out more.
I know this tournament doesn't mean much, but that's my impression.

His bike test shows otherwise.

Nope it’s a weakness for sure. A glaring one too.
I didn't watch the game today, but I watched the Buffalo one. Positioning I 100% agree with you. As for IQ, I see a kid who utilizes well his teammates and can make savvy passes. I don't see it as a glaring weakness. It could obviously be improved as he holds on to the puck too much, but it's definitely nothing to be too worried about, in my opinion.
