Billy bean was talking about how people looked in that quote both in physical appearance and how they threw the ball.

Having a swagger to you and confidence is a different thing. He seems like the kind of guy who will thrive on a bug stage.

By all objective measures, Wright has just as much confidence as Slaf.

Billy Bean was talking about management overweighting interviews as opposed to objective measures.

The fact is that Wright has the potential to be a Bergeron like player which is much more valuable than a good power forward.

Hahahaha sorry boys I had to! Its Juraj or die from this point on

Slafkovski can stickhandle in a phone booth.
Armia stickhandles like he has two stumps at the end of his arms.
Again, as I stated, the comparison wasn't a matter of skillset, but overall impact and career success at the NHL level. Armia's forechecking and puck protection abelites are, and will continue to be, vastly superior to those of Slafkovski, just as Slafkovski has his own areas of superiority and distinction. They'll just have similar careers when we step back in twenty years and reflect on both players.

I massively disagree, but il just leave it at that

He wasn't at the top of my list but I really do hope he can put it together @ the NHL level for MTL. I still have some hope for Dach to reach his top 6 potential, so picking Slaf isn't so bad. As I've been saying I really wanted to come out of this with a potential top 6 center and we came out with one and a top 6 PF.

What I really don't want is to rush Slaf to the NHL, I guess we'll see how he does in preseason but with the defense MTL is going to ice this year and more than likely no Price I just don't see it being a great situation.

Happy for the kid and Slovakia, what a night for them!

It's funny because when I first started getting interested in this year's draft, Slaf was the guy I wanted and even low key wanted us to lose the lottery to draft him at #3. But when we won the lottery, I quickly changed my mind, Wright was my guy. I'm shocked by this pick, but still happy to have this beast with us. Time will tell if we made the right choice or not.

"Dont worry. Listen I've been playing a lot of NHL 22 lately. If you go backhand-forehand-backhand you score almost everytime."
99: “Shane…up, down, right, left, A, B, start…*click*”.

Shane: “Oh f*** ya bud 😈

I just saw some highlights and I'm not hating on the pick or whatever but I'm not HUGELY impressed. I've paid zero time looking at highlights so I know absolutely nothing of these prospects. In a vacuum, it's great to have a kid like this but man this seems like a horrid year to have a 1st overall pick. If there's IQ concerns then it will really look bad. Still the size and skating are very nice. Don't know if those hands translate but it's great he can do what he does. The shot seems fairly impressive but I'm not the greatest judge of releases and what not tbh. At times it looks like a damn good wrister.

One thing is I think rushing him to the NHL would be a huge mistake. For ffs let him dominate Liiga. Where's the fire? Sounds like the top picks next draft are where it's at. Let him develop his offence over there with as little pressure as possible. Tank another year at least.

boo hoo Wright... I wanted you to. but man up and prove to the other teams that pass you by

He showed is might be a sore loser

From what I've seen Slafkovsky's hockey IQ and work-ethic are both good. I don't really understand why he hasn't produced more, the only reason I can come up with is confidence.

He has a scoring touch, he's good at making those little creative plays that can result in a goal. He reminds me of Rantanen a bit except Juraj's been more clutch when it matters.

It seems like he might end up similar to Anthony Mantha though where he can be absolutely elite one game then disappear the next. I'd argue Jurajs work-ethic is better though.

The one thing I love with Slafkovsky is that he is already decently filled out. No KK or Dach problem in development where skinny tall guys take 5+ years to get over 205 pounds. Even with his mid production, I started seeing much better skating, agility and confidence from KK on an higher weight with Carolina this season. Slaf doesn't have this problem. He'll be able to start using his big man frame right from the beginning of his career. Guys with Slaf's skill and body don't come around very often. Even if I was a huge Wright fan, I'm Slaf or die gang now.

New Jersey didn't need another C so it was either Slavkovsky or the best D in Nemec for them. And Arizona probably expected MTL to draft Wright (per Bob McKenzie's tweet that most of the teams expected Wright) so they probably spent more time scouting and interviewing Cooley so they stuck with who they knew best.

Assuming Wright reaches his potential, Seattle in year 2 is already set at C, while MTL will hope Dach pans out or spend a couple more years looking for another C.

I wish Slafkovsky the best and hope he becomes an awesome player for MTL. Time will tell if MTL made the right choice. I certainly hope so.

This is interesting. Wright didn’t hold up under pressure.

This is a prime example of why interviews are an awful way to judge a character. You tell a player you don't like his play. What do you expect his reaction is going to be? Is Wright supposed to grovel to the seemingly inept management team and explain his bad play? Maybe Wright should let Gorton know his previous drafting decisions were awful so he takes no offense at all. IMO future star forwards would seem a bit shook if you tell them you don't like their play. Imagine being one of the best in your field, going to an interview, and having management tell you they don't like your work. Maybe the Canadiens should judge him more on his play than how he reactions to being borderline insulted.

Seriously, I can't blame him for feeling this way. Majority of us Habs fans contributed to this. Rooting for him the whole year to be a Canadien. Habs fans showing up to his games. He was trending all over social media. Welcoming him to the city too early way before the draft. Treated him like a celebrity. Probably thinking around 98% guaranteed Montreal would pick him.

Sucks for him but I think Seattle would be a good fit. Glad he didn't go to Arizona. At least now, he's a bit more humbled and like he said, has a chip on his shoulder. He should take this personally. Could be good for his career.

Why do I feel Bergevin is LFAO....
We’ll see who ends up laughing here in the end. One thing I have to give credit for is HuGo even having the stones to do what they did last night. Something clearly stunk about Shane Wright. Not only did we pass him, but two other teams. He wasn’t even the first center taken. That’s a huge red flag. I don’t agree passing on Nemec/Cooley but it is what it is. Slafkovsky is part of our future now.

Among the top prospect, Slaf became #1 because he is the most sure pick with his frame. At 18 yr he is already the same weight as grown adults. In probability he have higher pourcentage to transpose his potential into nhl.

edit : I mentioned about Slafkowski very early and convinced 5 months ago. I wrote a complete paragrah very positive about him. 5 or 4 months ago. So maybe I'm part of what happened, sorry or yeahh good choice.

Bro, Wright might become a fine NHL player but get it out of your head that's going to be a "Bergeron-like player" because unless you're a top ten all-time two way center, you will never be a "Bergeron-like player." I'm confident that Shane Wright will not be that, although he still should be be pretty good. The concern with Wright is that while his floor is pretty high, his ceiling is not. As a fan, I love HuGo's "go big or go home" approach last night.
