I keep hearing about his "big personality". As the great Billy Beane says in Moneyball, "We're not selling jeans here". Either he can play or not. I don't care if he can tell jokes or not.

Billy bean was talking about how people looked in that quote both in physical appearance and how they threw the ball.

Having a swagger to you and confidence is a different thing. He seems like the kind of guy who will thrive on a bug stage.

We're not year one of rebuild man!? What are you smoking?

Are you expecting 5 more years of us being last in the league?
In a capped profit sharing league? You might want to resign yourself to a resounding answer of “yes”. Only way to do it. We can’t use our most powerful attribute as a franchise to better ourselves. Money. Enjoy!

He was in a situation where no pressure was directly on him and playing on pure adrenaline on a high. He had all the underdog kind of energy going for him.

It is not representative of real play but more representative of the play of some prospect when they get call up for the first time and put in every good situation.

Pressure to perform in that game for him was inexistant, nobody would have blame him.
I wanted Wright, but let's be reasonable here. Slaf willed his team to a Bronze.. if we are to compare, why then did Wright really do nothing in the playoffs to will his team to a further game?
If Wright had the fire in his belly, especially after his mediocre year, why did he not go all out in the OHL playoffs to show he is truly the #1 he was supposed to be?
That was his time for redemption, but he just continued his decent 2 way play, almost like he was just going to work, finish his shift and clock out.

So when you say, Slaf never "carried" his team, imo that is being disingenuous

Thry said their priority WAS TO GET PLAYERS WHO WANT TO PLAY THERE, which goes completely against your pet theory. They interviewed those prospects, knew which was more interested.
And in your imagination you think Wright told them he didn’t want to play in Arizona? The most polished prospect in the circuit lol. He probably told them whatever they wanted to hear. As did Cooley.

No player actually wants to play in a university arena. They say what they have too. Arizona picked based on player evaluation.

Pet theory, goes against their stated priority. Delude yourself however you want.

We'll see what the future holds.

I don't agree with the pick. But apparently, Slaf was #1 on most team's draft boards. This means something. Clearly, the upside with this kid is immense. Here's hoping the new coaching and player development regime can have him reach his potential.

He was, literally all year lmao.
I got the notification.
Read your post.
I was fuming.

"What kind of revisionnist bs is this?!"

Started to do my Googles to prove you wrong. Here are the results of my extensive research :

NHL Central Scouting had Filip Forsberg 1st Overall.

My apologies, I stand corrected hahahahaha

Forsberg was first on the EURO side no doubt but he was never considered for first overall seriously.
Yakupov Murray Galchenyuk Rielly had better cases than him from N/A scouting lists.

Obviously everybody got it wrong as the two euros picked 6th (lindholm) and 11(forsberg) ended up better than everybody outside of maybe rielly from n/a.
Forsberg was always considered the top EURO skater that year but not really in talks for first overall

Just as I had accepted my fate as a crazy old head...

Want to know why we chose him? Kid has the ability to laugh at himself while making mistakes/learning. Confidence with wisdom at 18? Take it!

Armia sounds like an exceptional comparison not for play style but impact, surrounding narrative, and overall statistical performance: frustrating bursts of skill or capability but he will be regarded in ten years as one of those third line players who just never put things together, getting kicked around to a variety of different teams and eking out a respectable, generic NHL career.

Slafkovski can stickhandle in a phone booth.
Armia stickhandles like he has two stumps at the end of his arms.
