Not sure if the Americans got tired, but Russians looked significantly better in the third

I think we shortened our bench waaaay too much. I don’t think Chesley got a single shift in the third, and he was one of our better D in the 1st and 2nd.

Trash goal to give up from Homer, he was low-key really bad.

Well, that was an enjoyable game to watch, what a comeback by the Russians, I hope they will clean up the game and stop taking unnecessary penalties, then they should be good.

All Russian stars came as advertised.

Not the best talent so far in this tournament. Games are really sloppy and most of the talent seems to be the younger players.

In terms of American roster, besides Hughes, who are the top missing players if any ?

Other than Hughes, the big name who’s missing is Lucius.

The US seems reluctant to lean on its underage class, which is ridiculous given how good they are. The Russians (Michkov and Miroshnichenko) and the Canadians (Wright and Bedard) are showing no such hesitation and are getting rewarded for it.

Well a pandemic did shut down the a large amount of junior leagues worldwide. Get players who haven't played in months plus give them teammates they've never played before and that's a clear recipe for sloppy hockey at the beginning of a tournament.

Don't forget about Yurov, was named player of the game on Team Russia with 1+1. It looks like Koromyslov is our top defenseman, and he's of the 2022 draft as well.

Later in the game Miroshnichenko was moved to Svechkov and Yurov, and Chibrikov played with Michkov and Gaidamak, and both lines looked great. I still think, they should unite Ivantsov with Chibrikov and Michkov, they played together in the MHL playoffs. Yeah, Gaidamak is bigger, but Ivantsov is more creative. Can be a sleeping good pick in 2021 draft.

He'll be picked somewhere in 4+ round probably, but he's really underrated.

He’s not low key bad. He’s high key very bad. I didn’t watch the game yet, but I know the drill with Homer in net. A lot of goals go in and the team isn’t given a chance to win.

Did the announcers mention what happened with Mbereko? Mbereko is the starter for this age group, and while he probably won’t be drafted this year, he’s not going to be as bad as Homer.

Yeah, that OT goal was entirely on Homer.

USA is missing their best goalie, best defenseman, and best forward. They are also missing their second best goalie, five other regular forwards and one other regular defenseman. This is nowhere near our best team.

But that’s not an excuse. We aren’t one of the main medal contenders going into this tournament. They are also extremely poorly coached. This is not one of the better American teams. Russia and Canada are probably the favorites this year.

 Okay fair. I didn’t want to be too harsh on him, since this is the first game I’ve seen him play.

Rough game to watch. Not unexpected however as it's not uncommon for there to be wild momentum shifts at this age.

I thought the US spent too much of its emotional capital early on. We looked gassed once Russia got their legs under them.

Man is Michkov a shifty little bugger, he can dart in and out of holes with ease. But I was more impressed with Miroshnichenko. I see a higher upside with him.

Michkov vs Miroshnichenko is the same as Kaprizov vs Gurianov. Gurianov is good, but Kaprizov in on another level or two, the same is going to be with Michkov and Miroshnichenko. Michkov has big IQ advantage, and the higher hockey level, the more obvious it will be. As in Kaprizov vs Gurianov case.

This Russian team is missing 3 of its top 4 defensemen, so I'm not surprised it was a sloppy scoring fest. Both Russia and the Americans have some serious weaknesses to shore up.
Russia has immense talent up front, but is playing with fire if we have to rely on high scoring to win every game.

Hope Miro will end up a better player than Guryanov. Btw, if Mickov'IQ is so high why are his stats always skewed towards goals? Players with high IQ tend rack a lot of assist by utilizing their partners to the best of their abilities.

Michkov simply knows to where the puck goes way before, than anybody on the ice. That's why all goals. Kaprizov looked more like a goal scorer in Russia as well, and then all of a sudden people saw, he could pass like top playmakers.

I bet, if Kaprizov played with Matthews and not Rask, he would have had more assists, than goals.
