Jesus, I know Canada is generally the best hockey country, but wtf is going on with Sweden?

Surprised to see them get routed like this.

Also lowkey worried about Canada getting too over confident.

Normally that kind of result vs Norway. But Sweden? Crazy!

For how highly touted he is, Edvinsson was not impressive whatsoever.

Granted this entire Swedish team looks shellshocked. They couldn’t handle the early physicality and speed from Canada, then the game just snow balled on them.

Canada looked fantastic top to bottom. One of the most impressive performances I’ve ever seen at this tournament in a single game amongst traditional hockey powers.

Canada was vastly superior in every area of the game. 12-1 final.

Not too sure how they even picked a best player for Sweden lol... going to assume that kid scored the goal for them?

For a team that is comprised of a lot of guys who haven’t played in a year or guys who’ve barely played, Sweden looked like the rusty team tonight.

I’m very bullish on the ‘03 class for the OHL and the WHL class looks strong too. Plus you have two underage players who are the best junior talents since McDavid.

Did Sweden not bring their best players? How many are they missing? Because with the yellow and blue they could have easily have been mistaken for Kazakhstan after that result
All the best are there.

And just overall, the idea that missing some players is the difference when a team loses 12-1 is lets say not realistic. Realistically, Sweden shouldn't lose 12-1 even if they bring C-team and Canada has it's U20s.

A great game to evaluate an individual player.

How did Cuelemans look?

He intrigues me so much about this draft, but he did not look very good in two of the games I saw in this crazy season in the AJHL.

Well, you can say the same about NHL vs AHL teams. Still, NHL teams keep beating other NHL teams with ridiculous scores. Not that often, but it happens. An NHL team can lose 10-1 to another NHL team and then beat it in a day.

One can imagine, what shitstorm is going to happen in Sweden press. Of course, if Sweden press care about the tournament at all.

Swedish press described the game as "a game of Men vs Boys"

"Men against boys"

They were overrun by 8-0 after two periods and in the end crushing 12-1 with telling shot statistics 47-29, it was Småkronorna's biggest loss ever.

- It was men against boys. Now we have to learn from the match, we hope that we will come back stronger after this, says national team captain Anders Eriksén.

Defenseman Simon Forsmark from Örebro scored the consolation goal 1-10 in the third period.

Other than some short articles about the games the u18s don't get much press at all in Sweden so there won't be much of a storm. The ones I've seen just point out they were run over/humiliated and those that can be bothered quote some interview from the iihf page with the swedish coach but nothing more than that.

If they keep performing like this I'm sure some of the hockey writers will write something around the concerning state of swedish junior hockey but there won't be much of a debate unless they have a really weak u20 tournament. That's really the only junior tournament with proper coverage. Noone outside the true nerds, like me, gives a crap about the u18s.

Uhh no. Sweden's C team is very bad every year. Sweden produces no more than 1 team per age group that can compete at that level. And this year Canada has a strong generation brewing, they can't compete.

I wouldn't worry about the Swedes. When they realized they are loosing the game, they folded the effort and Canada being Canada will always run up the score. I would not be surprised if Sweden beats them in a next meaningful game.

I actually came in to check on the Finnish guy who got hurt, hope he is doing fine!
it really turned the game upside down for Russia and killed the momentum. Once the guys cooled off an realized they are playing back to back with less than 24 hours between the games they fell apart, it happens. Finns played really well as well, and what happened to our future stars in SO? They have 0 moves?

12 goals on 47 shots? Did they have a tie in net?

The last time i recall a Swedish team taking a beating was at the World Juniors in Halifax. A very average skating, less than skilled team with possibly the worst goaltending tandem they have ever had. They lost 7-2 to a Canadian team that was workmanlike but not full of high end skill. Michal Zajkowski and Mathias Fagerstrom in goal. I think Sweden decided after that tourney that they needed a new approach to skill development.
