I think they were hoping things could hold until Merryweather and Pearson came back. Probably still not a good strategy though, considering both are injury prone and one of them doesn’t even have a lot of MLB experience.

I don't think it's that surprising. We don't spend any money in the pen so we cobble together a bunch of question marks hoping that we get lucky there every year.

Makes zero sense. The bullpen sucks and they aren't using an effective piece from last year. They want to keep him stretched out just in case. Well there has been a need for months in the pen, not much in the rotation.

As much good as Shatkins have done, some of their dumb decisions are absolutely crippling and essentially counteract all the effects of their good moves.
