Ohtani is a total freak of an athlete. I'm just glad he didn't end up with the Dodgers or Yankees. Teams who don't deserve the guy.

f***ing Ohtani, man. Who is a more talented hitter? Ichiro or Ohtani?

Ichiro.

Ohtani is a career .268 hitter with a .346 OBP. That would've been Ichiro's worst season before his late career swoon with the Yankees and Marlins.

Ichrio also had the power, he simply chose not to use it in favor of serving his role as a contact hitting, get-on-base leadoff guy. Ichiro batting practices where he'd step up and mash are basically the stuff of legend.

I was surprised to see that Ichiro's 162 games MLB career averages is only .757 OPS and 107 OPS+. I guess the back half of his career really brought his averages down. His peak in the MLB was relatively short because he got here only when he was 27 already.

Still wonder what happens if Ichiro comes over earlier in his career. Hes pretty easily the best contact hitter I've ever seen. And it never made sense to me because the guy would be running out of the box before he even made contact.

Yeah he went downhill in his 30's, like most players. If you just look at his career in Seattle, some of those seasons were among the best ever for contact hitters. It helps being elite defensively too.

I mean, Ichiro's career best wRC+ was 131. Ohtani is hitting at a 167 wRC+ clip right now. In his FIRST season he posted a 149 wRC+.

Ichiro obviously had the BA and never struck out, but Ohtani walks at 2x the rate of prime Ichiro and the power isn't even close. At the end of the day, a .383 ISO is worth more than a ~.350+ BA.

Buck: if you wanna think like I think, go into the garage, grab a hammer, and hit yourself in the head a few times.
