Has Romano pitched since his finger issue a few days back?

I'd love to go after Charlie, but our bullpen is a mess - not much he can do.

Shapkins need to make a move for a bp arm sooner rather than later.

Would 10 more pitchers be enough?

Assuming 5 will get injured within their first 2-3 appearances.

Last year Dolis had good control and most pitches were at least close. This years hes all over the place.

He looked good for a short stretch this season at some point. I would have gone with Castro over Dolis. Romano needed to be in there. Currently, there's a big gap between Romano and the rest of the relievers.

Just looking at the Sox lineup it was so obvious to bring in Romano. If he does well, Devers would be leading off in the tenth. Walk him and the highest OPS of the next Sox hitters is .737. Dolis or Castro would likely do well against the bottom of the lineup which is weak compared to the top.

You want your best reliever against their best hitters. It was such an obvious decision and I called it before and it pisses me off.

Reminds me of the O's not bringing in Britton against the Jays in the WC. Why would you let your best reliever not pitch? Makes no sense to me.

time to go chat up old friend Ben Charington and see what he has to offer in terms of relievers. See if you can pry Ricardo Rodriguez away from them.

Then call Seattle and Arizona and a reliever from each team. Do it now before teams are talking at the deadline. Get ahead of this.

Go see if old friend Daniel Hudson can be had from Wash

Jays best relievers. Bolded ones are injured

Romano
Merryweather
Yates
Phelps
Borucki

Dolis
Mayza
Castro
Cole
Payamps
Thornton
Chatwood
Bergen
Beasley
Milone
Saucedo
Edwards Jr.

As frustrating as he's been this year Dolis is probably their 2nd best healthy reliever. As frustrating as the pen has been lately they've got 4 of their 5 best relievers injured and 1 of there go to guys early in Chatwood literally can't throw a strike right now. They've got about 3 guys on in the current pen who would even be on the team if they were all healthy. Yeah they could go out and trade their 25th best prospect for some guy who's the 6th best reliever on the Pirates or something and he'd be our 2nd best reliever but it's not going to fix the issue at heart here which is the brutal injuries our pen has had this year. The best relievers aren't going to be traded right now. The teams that are out of it are going to wait until closer to the deadline to better leverage their assets unless they get a huge overpayment right now. If you want to call up Hatch Kay and Pearson and use them out of the pen that's an option but you better hope your 5 starters stay very healthy for the rest of the year.

#Bluejays manager Charlie Montoyo on bullpen usage tonight: “Romano is available if we take the lead. Tie game, Dolis.”

I defend management a lot but Merryweather and Yates had a lot of injury history and question marks coming into the season. Not a surprise both are on the DL.

I’d be fine putting Kay into the bullpen. He’s not going to be a starter. Murphy seems good to go as well.

You need to look at some of these pitchers like Zuech, Murphy who probably won't be starters for the Jays, and move them for some bullpen help and other prospects.

What an idiot
it's right out of the Buck Showalter school of baseball lol. I mean if it was 7-8-9 then ok maybe Dolis and hold Romano back for the top of the order in the 10th but even then why take a chance you don't get to extra innings.

not to mention boston is the team we are chasing, i dont get it really. the more i think about it the more frustrated i get, we had a chance to gain ground and montoyo just threw it away....again

I hate coaches that are rigid in their thinking. Montoyo had his mind made up about Dolis and wasn’t going to change it regardless where the Sox were in their lineup.

Btw, is there a more unlikable player than Dolis? Never mind the 5.14 ERA. He takes forever to make a pitch. It’d be tolerable if he was good, but he’s been awful.
