I wanted to give baseball another shot and watch some of the jays game but then there was a 10 minute conversation about a slide. No thanks.

Well if it's 2nd and 3rd then Palacios doesn't bunt and perhaps gets out so maybe that worked out for us as well

Wait, if Davis is safe and didn't interfere how is it not 2nd and 3rd? Both would advance on the error?

I ... don’t know?

This is one of the weirdest plays I’ve ever seen.

I assumed Davis would be safe at 2nd because bag wasn’t touched and then Jansen would be out because of interference. But if Davis didn’t interfere runners should be 2nd/3rd.

Davis never moved though so how do you give him the base.

Just a weird play lol

Davis didn't move because he was called out. The rules of review say that when the call it changed you're allowed to guess where the runners would have ended up had the correct call been made. I guess they esimated because of the slide and contact he wouldn't have gotten up and ran to 3rd I guess. I think he clearly would have, whatever.

"Bottom of the Jays lineup is so gross Rowdy is hitting 5th"

All 4 of the guys 6-9 get on base.

Clearly I know nothing

It's almost like they called interference. But didn't call him out because he didn't touch the bag. I have no idea lol

Didn't call interference because that would have resulted in Jansen being called out at 1st automatically, and Espinal wouldn't have been allowed to come home. The only thing that makes sense is they estimated because of the slide he wouldn't have gotten up and ran to 3rd on the error. That's a judegement call so I can't argue it too much, they made the correct important decisions.

Googling the review rules. I find this

  • Placement of runners: An umpire's placement of a batter and/or runners following any boundary call is reviewable.

This wasn't a boundary review, so it seems they can't guess on runner position? They can only put Davis on 2nd because that's the furthest base he reached? Which makes me ask the question, had Davis just peeled off and never touched 2nd, can they not assume he makes 2nd safely? That seems dumb.

edit: There's also this though

If replay review results in a change to a call that had been made on the field, the replay official shall exercise his discretion to place both clubs in the position they would have been in had the call on the field been correct.

So IDK

Ok I've never seen a starting pitcher warming in the pen between innings.

Can we just put Roark into this game, and start Matz tomorrow?

I look at Quintana and curse Theo Epstein. I get we wanted to defend the world series but giving up Eloy Jimminez and Dylan Crease hurt.
