belleville should have got there shot at the cup last year but ugh coivd 19 hit
What I meant was... Why does the AHL get to do an actual preseason, and the NHL doesn't get that luxury?Well, the NHL starts playing other teams on 1/13. These AHL games against other teams start on 1/19.
Not enough revenue generation in NHL preseason games? Follow the money. What I meant was... Why does the AHL get to do an actual preseason, and the NHL doesn't get that luxury?
Binghamton too. That's true. Belleville was on fire.
Binghamton too.
And then ... the other skate dropped. Oh, what might've been.... The North Division was a really tight division and the competition level was high.
There wasn't enough time between the decision to start the NHL and the start of the season with all the covid-19 protocols and quarantine requirements. The schedule is pretty tight, so they didn't want to delay any further. Plus the owners probably felt it wasn't worth the cost. What I meant was... Why does the AHL get to do an actual preseason, and the NHL doesn't get that luxury?
More hyperbole from the "sports journalists" @ NYP.
Three teams have opted out of 2020-21, leaving 28 clubs to play the season. The schedule will differ by division. Some teams will play as few as 24 games. Others may play as many as 42. Most two-way contracts mandate salaries in the range of $70,000.
You do the math. If players’ pay is strictly prorated, a player on a 24-game team making $70,000 would earn the grand total of $20,487 — before taxes. Players on teams on 42-game schedules would then earn a pre-tax $35,853 that they’d shouldn’t spend in one place.
Come on, man.
And in addition, these players have not been paid since receiving their final 2019-20 paychecks in the middle of April. That’s nine months. It may be nobody’s fault, but there is a crisis consuming the bedrock of the NHL’s development and it is crushing a wave of prospects.
Not in the economics, no, just in the reporting. Perhaps "clickbait" would've been the more appropriate modern term to describe it.Yep, sounds like hyperbole to me.

According to Marcotte (Laval's play-by-play guy), Laval's camp is set to start this Friday, the 22nd. They will have camp in Montreal and will occasionally practice in Brossard. They clearly won't be in Place Bell. Which is efficient since all the testing and screening spots will already be set up in Brossard and Bell Center. It saves them from having to set up another spot in Laval.
He also says that the AHL schedule is still not confirmed. He also said that the Senators have yet to decide where they will situate their AHL affiliate (Belleville). It sounds like they will do like the Habs and have them in their NHL rink.
He mentions how it will be done this year in terms of his play-by-play. He will be in the studio when there are road games. He won't travel with the team.
He also says that the AHL is going ahead with a season, but they still don't know if they will have playoffs.
If there are no playoffs, why play?
