The format of training camp makes a lot of sense. Have "the team" practice together from day 1, and have less surprises at the end for players and what their status is.

Playing with Capfriendly a bit in between periods.....

The taxi squad could be a godsend for Adams. I just ran a roster with Okposo on the taxi squad. Saves $1M. Same with Girgensons. Same with Eakin. I wonder if Adams shuffles players in that manner.

Can players get shuffled back and forth from the taxi squad without waivers? Need @dotcommunism to confirm this for me. If they have to clear waivers, then moving Okposo between taxi squad and roster makes a ton of sense. Will create some cap space.

Here's what I came up with on Capfriendly

Traded Montour to the Devils for Miles Wood.

Skinner - Eichel - Reinhart
Hall - Staal - Olofsson
Wood - Eakin - Thompson
Girgensons - Asplund - Cozens
x Ruotsalainen, Cozens

Dahlin - Jokiharju
McCabe - Ristolainen
Irwin - Miller
x Davidson

Ullmark, Hutton

Taxi Squad: Tokarski, Johansson, Sheahan, Lazar, Rieder, Borgen

Methodology: after games, Okposo is waived for another forward. Over a full season, Okposo on the taxi squad saves $1M. Hutton is on the taxi squad any game he doesn't start. Johansson backs up Ullmark any game Hutton does not start. Similar to Okposo, if Hutton was on the taxi squad a full year, it saves $1M. I'd shuttle Davidson and Okposo, who if claimed, is not a loss. Johansson is waiver exempt.

The NHL roster listed above, minus taxi squad, is $2.7M under the cap, which accounting for the $1.5M overage, leave the Sabres with $1.2M in usable cap space. Dahlin, Jokiharju, and Cozens have just under $4.4M in performance bonuses. Shuttling Okposo and Hutton could help eat into that.

Now the question is if they're worried about losing JJ to UFA as he needs 23 starts to preserve his RFA status. Maybe put Tokarski straight to Rochester, have Hutton ride the taxi squad with JJ as the backup
I honestly don’t think they care enough about JJ to do that. It would also be a terrible idea to put him in net that much if they plan on doing anything this year.

Can we all pray that Hutton has a great camp and announces that surgery corrected his vision that caused his awful play last season. That or JJ plays lights out and steals a job.

Is there going to be a normal waiver wire this season or no with the taxi squads?

I dont have much confidence in our goaltending. I wanted us to go after a vet upgrade for a couple years to bridge UPL eventual arrival

Krueger mentioned that Hutton had a medical issue last year that they resolved.

Normal waiver wire. Those that are not exempt from waivers need to clear to be assigned to the AHL or taxi squad.

Clearing Okposo through waivers would be smart and provide flexibility.

Eichel being injured already obviously sucks, but let's not forget one big difference compared to last season :)
