Draft order is outdated (assuming this was posted recently).

Edit: Ah, Detroit taking two goalies. Reminds me of an amusing story from Washington's 1989 Draft. They drafted Olaf Kolzig with #19 then drafted Byron Dafoe with their next pick at #35. Caps GM Bryan Murray loudly said "WHAT? DID WE GIVE UP ON THE OTHER GUY ALREADY?" which got a laugh from the surrounding tables. Despite competing for the same spot early in their pro careers, Kolzig and Dafoe became good friends and were best men at each other's weddings if I recall correctly. They even "fought" once in the NHL during a line brawl.
It was updated on the 2nd so it's about two weeks behind. I'm sure it'll get a couple of picks right...most mocks do, but yeah I can't imagine DET taking both goalies in the first round. That just seems like crazy talk there. Plus, I can't see Cossa falling that far at this point.

I seem to find myself always agreeing with Pronman. As someone who obviously follows the team closely I never understood the massive separation so many others had between Beniers and Johnson. The talk of Beniers going 2 and Johnson possibly falling out of the Top 10 just seemed so off to me.

If this is the way the draft plays 1-7 I am even more behind taking Wallstedt at #8 and solving one of the massive system holes the Kings have.

What about taking a player at #8 and trading back up to select Cossa?

At this point I would be fine with most scenarios. Trade the pick and a prospect(s) if necessary for a top 4 PMD or help on the wing. Draft Johnson, Guenther, Lucius or even the goaltender at #8. If one of the top 4 defensemen drop, grab him instead. There's never been a draft like this before with so much uncertainty thanks to COVID. There's going to be some great later round picks in hindsight I suspect. Hopefully they're by the Kings.

I'd like that if it was at all possible but I can't see Cossa lasting into the early/mid 20's. I think he's gone Top 20. Maybe Top 15.

Possible landing spots for goalies:

7. San Jose - Random trivia, Sharks/Wild (and Knights) are the only NHL teams never to have used a first round pick on a goalie.

10. Ottawa - Rumor was that the owner personally wanted Askarov at #5 last year, but he didn't force them to do it.

12. Chicago - They made a mild reach in the 2nd round last year for a goalie, but it seems like they have an organizational tendency to find a budget goalie later in the draft / free agency.

13. Calgary - They have former Junior King Dustin Wolf who put up stellar numbers in the WHL but he's a normal sized human, so we'll see if that translates at the next level. Flames have some other holes in their pipeline.

20. Edmonton - Tough cap space situation, so they'd probably love a potential starter on an ELC. Probably a ton of familiarity with Cossa playing in the same building.

22. Minnesota - They took a goalie in the 2nd round in 2019 but that was under a previous regime.

23. Detroit - I'd be a little surprised if Detroit went goalie with their own first round pick, but I could see them being interested (and maybe trading up ahead of Edmonton) if one slipped.

Sebastien Cossa is not going to be the next Terry Sawchuk or Martin Brodeur and besides the Kings have Vilalta,Ingham,Parik and Hrenak in the Wings someone has to rise up and assume a back-up or first string role right?

Brodeur was selected 20th overall. No one thought he was going to be the next Terry Sawchuck either. Especially when they already had Mike Heinke and Chad Erickson in the pipeline and a 23 year old Sean Burke as a starter.

Love your hot takes...

I have fate in none of them beside Parik, but even in him it is not 100%.
I want Kings to draft with our 49th pick Benjamin Gaudreau.
He has a lot of talent and he models his game after Quick.
If he will be already taken I want Kings to take with our 3rd round pick Aleksei Kolosov.
Kings need to upgrade our goalie pipeline ASAP.

I feel the same way, I'm far from being particular about what we do with this pick. Trade it for a top 4 PMD? Sure! Trade it for a top 6 Scoring Winger? Definitely! Even with the top 10 from this draft there's really no one I wouldn't want to draft, even Wallstedt would be a good pick in my opinion.

Like to see how the 2021-22 season plays out. Quicker and Petersen in LA,Villalta and Ingham in Ontario and Hrenak and Parik in Europe then decide if the Kings organization needs yet another 'tender!Having said that if Gaudreau or one of the others you mentioned are there in the middle rounds(3rd-4th) then by-all-means draft one!

Parik will play with Reign next year.
He just signed 1 year agreement with them.
Villalta was horrible last year.
I have no hope for him...

I don’t like the idea of drafting a goalie with a 1st rounder with how much success we have had grooming goalies. Campbell was considered a bust and LA turned him into solid backup who is now a 1B. There’s a bunch of other examples as well. The 2 options below are how I feel it should go.

Trade the pick for a defenseman or upgrade on the wing.

Draft the kid with the most upside, I don’t care what position he plays.

This is actually a really valid point. Good post.

I guess playing Devils advocate, what could Ranford do with a 1st round talent though?

Berube wasn't much better... lol

As you mentioned will be amazing to have Parik in Ontario while the boys will continue to win and lose as a group.

They really just got their feet wet last season then really started to gel around the midway point. We have a bunch of new talent that haven't played with each other so it wasn't a shock that it took a bit.

Is Reinhart going to be playing right wing? Or are we shifting Byfield to wing? Reinhart turns 26 this year.

Iafallo - Kopitar - Brown
Kempe - Byfield - Reinhart
Andersson - Vilardi - Moore

Obviously there are a bunch of other guys who could claim a top nine spot - Kaliyev, Kupari, Turcotte, Fagemo, etc.

That's basically my view point in that we've found plenty of talent well outside the 1st so it's better value to us draft goalies later on than earlier.

That being said I think there's an argument to be made for Wallstedt or Cossa. I think given that we stayed at 8 and didn't drop to 10 I don't think there's a real need to take either and we'll better value there drafting a defenseman or a winger. You do feel giddy at the thought of Ranford coaching either of those guys

^ This (no sarcasm).

I actually always regard this emoji :sarcasm: more along the lines of... 'I have secret to tell you' rather than 'insert sarcasm here'.

Earlier in his career he played C but has been cemented on the wing recently. He's steadily put up at least 25 goals every season – this shortened season lead the team with 25 goals and carried them on his back. Without him the 2nd half of the season they might have not won a game.

He has one of the best hand/eye coordination in the league for tipping pucks in from the point that I've ever seen.
