Edmonton didn't want to fall back to far. Simple as that.

Yes, maybe Edmonton wasn't a fit, but Nashville, Winnipeg could have been a possibility. Heck I would have even taken on Tarasenko if it would have meant getting him at 17. I really like him is all. maybe the price was simply too high and maybe we find out what was asked for in the future. It would be nice to debate in the future. :-)

Really the point I'm making is "if you really, really wanted Wallstedt enough to make calls in trading up, then there is a way". To me they have enough stock pile to assets to make a move on a Franchise quality goaltender is all.
Obviously not enough to move your top top guys like Turcotte, Faber, Vilardi etc. If not them, it would've cost next year's first. Very hard to trade prospects for first round picks.

Why do people keep saying they would "take Tarasenko" with the 17th? Tarasenko has value. He's not a first round pick cap dump.

Not saying all they would want is to give up Tarasenko. But I bet they would listen to the Kings and make some other demands. Again, not saying we empty the darn farm. Just saying Wallstedt is a really good young goalie and the cost was probably too high for Blake.

It doesn't make a ton of sense to trade recently drafted prospects to move up in the draft. Why trade a prospect you have a feel for from being in your system at least a year to move up for a prospect you know less about and is less developed?

I cannot recall any trades where recently drafted prospects were used as part of deals to move up in/into the first round. If you know of examples of this please add them here.

If David Savard returned a late first, the Kings could have gotten the same for Dustin Brown at the last TDL. Without an additional late first, they weren’t going to get to Wallstedt if he fell. Bill Guerin once again making authoritative moves and not painting by the numbers.

Michigan has all these 1st round picks, and they still won't win a natty.

Ahh yeah how are those guys doing lately?

Anyway I never claimed taking a goalie outside the first was bad, we have Quick of course (though the last decade of your posts about him...), only that "taking a goalie in the first round is bad" is basic.

I just think it's a stanky comment to make considering nobody goalies win cups every other year it seems. No reason to waste a top pick for a Goalie unless you're being a devils advocate for the lulz.

Year after year good teams try to win with nobody goalies and get knocked the f*** out in the first two rounds.

Authoritatively making them a first round out every year! Great work Guerin!

I think Lambos will be pretty good. His injuries may have affected his draft but kids going to be a steal.
