PP units in today's practice:

Turunen-Ruotsalainen-Karjalainen-Ruohomaa-Kaski

Innala-Kontiola-Lundell-Pakarinen-Sund

So 4 forwards in both and Pakarinen must be the mask man in the second unit.

Leijonien MM-avauksen ketjukoostumukset loksahtamassa paikoilleen – ylivoimaviisikoissa mukavasti tulivoimaa

Is there a mask man for the first unit though? Which one of those dwarfs is supposed to block the line of sight? I guess Ruohomaa could do it, but he isn't ideal guy for the job. We shall see.

Karjalainen is actually pretty good at it, I'm assuming that's what he's there for. He offers little else than his ability to be there and tip some pucks in.

Ruohomaa has to be the Backstrom-type half-wall guy because if he's not running that powerplay who is. Also, it was his natural position for Sibir.

If Finland only got to be the Olympic champions in hockey one day - then the (Fin-)land would flip all over:D !

And remember the rest out of the world ... Mörkö (Anttila) is still lurking around like a big lurch to scare the livin' shite of ya as a captain in Finlands fourth evil-line with compadres Mäenalanen and Björninen

I can't even for my life never ever understand why, oh why, only two NHL players joined the united forces of Finland this time around in Riga (I give a total shite about boring corona) when seein' scenes like this in Helsinki - and as Worldchampions they would've been Finland national heros for ever and ever. Easy. But that almighty NHL destroys their heart or somethin' else ...

If Finland win the world championship even this time around then Olli Määttä (Los Angeles Kings) and Arttu Ruotsalainen (Buffalo Sabres) - the only ones who stod up for their country instead of a golf-swing extra - gonna get some huge cred for it.

Even if Arttus last name means Swedish in the Finland language ...

Because apparently we can win without our NHL stars so why bother.

"Konna"

is the key to this whole tournament for Finland what it seems - coz in rather ol' dog Petri "Konna" Kontiola coach Jukka Jalonen seems to trust.
Me, and probably many other, maybe not so much - but he (Jukka) is the coach. Remember he knows best. Coz he's the boss.

Petri Kontiola seems to be the x-faktor for Finland this time around. A great player all around but slow as ... as a slowhand Eric Clapton. When Finland need a young gun like Yngwie Malmsteen in his hey day!

I don't see a reason to put up a fight with coach Jalonen as early as now - but if Kontiola doesn't work out - fast forward with the young ones Finland; nothin' to lose ya see.

I too think this team is weaker then 2019 team. I actually had a good feeling before the tournament then, we had played well in the EHT tournaments and you could see something shaping up. I don't see that this year. But we'll see how it goes.

It's slightly better on paper - the offense makes the difference in that regard. But games aren't won on paper, of course. The reason it doesn't look so good this time 'round could be that two years ago, the team had an unusually long preparation period - 18 players from the first camp roster, announced six weeks before the tournament started, made their way to the final team.

Now, all they had were the three EHT games in Czechia, and it's obvious they're still seeking their legs. I wouldn't be surprised if the first few round robin games make many people shake their heads - as they will be a part of the process they'd already covered by then in 2019. Luckily, the tournament schedule looks like it'll be somewhat favorable for us - USA will be as unprepared as we are, if not more, and the next three games are what should be the easiest in the entire tournament: Kazakhstan, Norway and Italy. There are two non-elite countries in the group that can cause trouble to the top teams if they catch them with pants down: Germany and Latvia (who already displayed it by beating Canada), and we're lucky to have them both among our final three opponents.

I'll kill your optimism and say that Italy will give our players covid and we are done.

Well joking aside, if we go into more detail there is 1 more thing that is favorable for us with the schedule. Only the last game against Canada starts early at 12:00. In chronological order 16:15, 16,15, then 20:15 x4. Very nice.

And yes, Latvia and/or Germany will cause problems. One of those games will be 1 goal game I feel, but I'm not sure who will that favor, us or the opposition. We face LAT & GER in back to back days as well.

While it's fun to see non-NHLers perform well I was hoping to see some stars (or Stars) on the roster.

Wonder if the coach had anything to do with it? just like how he locked the roster early in 2019 which clearly worked out.

Covid quarantines after traveling make it a bit harder as well and it's not very exciting for many players to come from North-America to be in a hotel room for 2-3 weeks after the season. Those 56 regular season games were played in quite short span so it may have given players all kinds of injuries and perhaps exhausted them.

So that may have factored in Jalonen's & Lehtinen's decision in locking the team down early and as you said, it gave us that 2019 gold, so I don't mind.

Konna = Toad.

I don't think anyone thinks the Konna for Kontiola means "villain".

I do. Cooler association than thinking of him as a toad.

Other people care about that boring corona.
