It's slightly better on paper - the offense makes the difference in that regard. But games aren't won on paper, of course. The reason it doesn't look so good this time 'round could be that two years ago, the team had an unusually long preparation period - 18 players from the first camp roster, announced six weeks before the tournament started, made their way to the final team.
Now, all they had were the three EHT games in Czechia, and it's obvious they're still seeking their legs. I wouldn't be surprised if the first few round robin games make many people shake their heads - as they will be a part of the process they'd already covered by then in 2019. Luckily, the tournament schedule looks like it'll be somewhat favorable for us - USA will be as unprepared as we are, if not more, and the next three games are what should be the easiest in the entire tournament: Kazakhstan, Norway and Italy. There are two non-elite countries in the group that can cause trouble to the top teams if they catch them with pants down: Germany and Latvia (who already displayed it by beating Canada), and we're lucky to have them both among our final three opponents.
