His article also had his thoughts about each player cut and each stand out player (Byram, Krebs, Pelletier, Dach, McMichael, Zary, Levi)

from everything I’ve heard the coach say, the Newhook/Pelletier/Holloway line is line 2 right now.

That line has some really good skill and jam.

Holloway is a fantastic skater and a wrecking ball on the forecheck and along the walls at both ends of the ice, Pelletier has some jam as well to his game.

I suspect they’ll play a big role especially with how some strong Holloway and Pelletier are defensively. Newhook has so much skill as well, plus having Holloway on his line who is strong on the face off dot helps.

I’m expecting big things from that line at both ends of the ice.

Taking a shot at what I think would make a good, balanced line-up:

Perfetti - Zary - Dach
McMichael- Cozens - Tomasino
Holloway - Newhook - Pelletier
Krebs - Byfield - Mercer
ex. Suzuki, Quinn

Byram - Schneider
Guhle - Drysdale
Harley - Barron
ex. Korczak, Spence

Levi
Garand
Gauthier

I think Perfetti and Zary make an excellent pair and have experience playing together at last year's hlinka. Zary's compete will bring out the best in Perfetti and I believe their IQ is perfect for Dach (Zary having already shown nice chemistry with him so far this camp)

McMichael/Cozens is another obvious pairing with Tomasino rounding out the line. I like spreading out the offense a little here and if you ever need a goal it's easy to swap Dach/Tomasino and put the big line back together while reuniting Zary/Tomasino who've shown nice chemistry already.

Third line is obvious and 4th line could really be any combination of the 5 guys left.

Defense I also don't really believe Byram and Drysdale should be playing together. Put each of them with reliable, strong skating shutdown guys and then in key situations pair them back up if necessary.

It’s amazing to me how much people buy into how HC lists their lines and pairs. If it was your first time following I’d understand the confusion but they always do this!

Exactly. Like they have Byram-Drysdale as the “third pairing” on the board, no way that’s the third pairing come game day.

Pay attention more to the player combinations, not the order they appear on the depth chart and what the coaches actually say about those player combinations.

Hard to think of a less deserving 1C than Zary so far.

If they start with those lines I wouldn't give Byfield much leeway. If he does nothing in the first exhibition make him an alternate.
The thought of having Byfield move to the wing with Cozens and Dach might be something to look at.
They could slide Quinn down with Zary and Tomasino
that might work out.

Does this guy piss anyone else off with his I know desk jockey better takes?

Yeah kind of. We didn't see most of the camp and in what we did see Pelletier outperformed Poulin. EP has always really disliked Pelletier though, in their prospect pool rankings they had him as Calgary's 6th best prospect (the list was a joke though Valimaki was 3rd behind Wolf). RoR over Barron??? I like RoR I hoped he would have fallen to the Flames in the 2nd but Burke should probably realize Barron wasn't the last d man to make the roster and they're likely playing different sides anyways. Regardless even if you think the latter two players are better (and remember we didn't see most of the camp), I don't see how they're so much better that you would consider this as a big mistake.

EP's draft rankings are behind a paywall but Burke wrote his own 2017 rankings and let's just say I don't think he's as good of a scout as he does.

Shhhh. You're not allowed to say that.

For years we heard about how that team was the best team since the 2005 Canadian team. Now... not so much.
Career defining for the coaching staff.

Even at full strength their roster isn’t up to par with ours. “We dominated this age group” when is there ever a tourney with everyone at full strength...

Hopefully they get stomped first game.
You might not get the pleasure. Beecher tested positive after practicing with the team. It’s very possible several other players and/or staff have been infected and the team will be disqualified before the tournament begins.

Makes me happy TC’s run-in with the virus happened when it did.

I dont think expectation is hate. I have zero reason to hate Byfield. He just shouldn't be gifted opportunity based on his draft position. I am fully hoping he kills it as if he is dominant I dont exactly see how we are stopped.
Agree.

As a Canadian, I hope this kids is the MVP but it's hard not to want more based on what we've seen.
