If its so easy for a rookie to play top six with the Leafs. How many rookies have secured a roster spot on the top two lines on the Leafs in the last 5 years?

Your post is a great example of expecting too much from a rookie, perhaps check what the leading rookies are scoring this year. 15 goals , 20 assists is a decent year for a rookie. NHL Leaders - Points by a Rookie | NBCSports

If you mute expectations and he over achieves we are all happy, if you expect Calder production, you really have nowhere but down to go. Why be one of those guys who puts pressure on our first real decent blue chip prospect in 6 years with excessively high expectations?

I was more just showing everything to this point is opinion. The last prospect we had that was this NHL ready in my opinion was Matthews.

I expect a complimentary player playing in the top 6 with top 9 minutes... that seems realistic to me.

I’m not expecting much from Knies, tbh. That doesn’t mean that I’m not excited about seeing him play for the Leafs.

It’s a massive over ask to expect him to make a serious impact to this team right now, but I just want to see what he does out there.

He has some tools that are much needed on this squad and I would be happy to see him play with some physicality and battle in the tough areas. Anything more than that would be a huge bonus!

I hope that whatever he does in this trial by fire…. we’ll…. more like superheated steam, doesn’t negatively impact his development. This could be a real double edged sword for Knies.

If he has little impact, they’ll be lots of people calling him overhyped, overrated, etc…
If he does well and things seem to fall in place in this short stint, they’ll be lots of people with sky high expectations of what to expect from him in the future.

Hoping for the best for this kid and the Leafs.

The worst thing for this discussion is that an awful lot of Leafs fans will be seeing him play a full game for the first time tonight. For better or for worse his immediate future with the team isn't going to be defined by the 20ish minutes of ice time he likely ends up with.

The teams coaches will get a better sense of where he's at after he's had a few practices with the NHL team.

Good post. The majority of guys on this page or even twitter haven't watched more than a game of Minnesota over the last two years. The people that have realize that his skill set *could* be immediately transferable, but he's going to have to adjust. He's not going to be the biggest, fastest, strongest guy anymore, and the dekes aren't going to work nearly as often. It'd be surprising if he adjusts immediately, but he's also that talented.

If I'm the Leafs what I'm hoping for is that he shows enough in his first few games that the transition ability transfers over to give the bottom-6 another guy who can move the puck the right way consistently. Scoring would be a huge plus, but not necessary in my eyes if he's showing what he does in College every game.

The dekes and stuff sure but in a Tampa series he’s the 4th biggest guy behind Paul Cernak and Hedman. He’s going to be the biggest guy on the ice fairly often unless he’s on with Matthews.

Is there a stream for the game tonight someone can PM me? Or is there a paid service I can use to get this game?

Cheers , I misunderstood your other reply.

Knies is going to learn a lot from Tavares, especially net front. One thing I really like a lot about his game too is that Minny has him as the puck carrier on a lot of zone entries. Reminds me in some ways of JvR, Knies more aggressive but JvR with a more complete offensive toolkit and a better set of mitts

2-1. Minni going into the 3rd
Best takeaway from the commentators, here comes knies the wagon winger!
Nickname the wagon?

Bad way to lose.. a costly penalty by Cooley, but I didn't think Minnesota deserved it anyway, their goalie played well.

So wait is he getting a game in before the season ends or not? I really want to see him play with us.
