Sounds like the kind of prospect we need more of to project into different roles throughout the lineup. It's a good pick and we have an Arizonan who can help him make the cultural adjustment.

Get to Know: Gopher Men's Hockey Newcomer Matthew Knies

Minnesota Gophers

Get to know Gopher Men's Hockey newcomer Matthew Knies.

Highlight videos can make anyone look good. I wouldn't say it's his best attribute... but he can play for sure.

Oh yeah, I remember thinking Matt Frattin was gonna be a perennial 30 goal scorer from his highlights . I just hope he's a good one, until he suits up as a pro then we'll start to get an idea. I like the size, and apparent skill he brings.

Does anyone know where he plays next year? Does he stay in USHL?

He seems kind of meh…oh well, university of minnesota games are easy to watch.

This feels like a shanahan pick not a dubas one.

University of Minnesota for next season.

Hyman is a way better skater, but Knies has more skill
He's definitely not like Hyman if the scouting reports are accurate. Don't expect him to chase down pucks with his less than average speed. He's apparently a turnover machine and poor defensively. I'd rather draft big guys with speed and grit. I don't like the pick, was hoping for a big gritty defensive d-man or a goalie.

Finally! A winger with size and skill. We don’t have anyone like him in the system and he can bring a unique skill set. Hopefully he pans out

The Hockey Prospect Black Book gave Matthew Knies an A grade and ranked him 13th overall on their 2021 Draft Prospect list, calling the 6’3”, 210 lb. winger “a dynamic power forward with one of the most extensive tool kits out of any draft eligible player featured in this class.”

Knies skating is said to be excellent, he scored 24 points (12 goals, 12 assists) in the final 15 games for Tri-City, and he has the size and strength to win puck battles in the defensive zone, as well as possessing the puck in the offensive zone.

So you are basing your "scouting" off reports because you have never seen him play, but can still make definitive statements.

Cool story

When they say turnover they meant he causes turnovers...one of his attributes.
