This thread is hella weird to read.
Gotta say, even though I was cheering for you tonight because I want the Oilers to play the Kings instead of a miraculously healthy Golden Knights, I think it's hella impressive to go from a .438 points percentage to a .584 in one season.
The Kings seem like a success story this year no matter what happens and I don't know why some of ya'll are so negative about your team...
This year was a step in the right direction. My concern is whether or not next year will be another step forward or a step backward. Kopitar looks like he is starting to slow down, and he is only getting older, will be 35 at the start of the next season. The only forward prospect so far who looks like he is ready to take that next step is Kaliyev. Byfield and Vilardi are still trying to adjust to the NHL game, and Turcotte still can't seem to crack the lineup at all (especially frustrating with Turcotte, seeing as how Zegras was drafted just a few spots later). Kupari has shown flashes, so hopefully, he can take a big step forward next year.
Quick is getting older as well, and Peterson hasn't really shown that he can take over that #1 spot.
I do expect the defense to be much improved next year with a healthy Drew Doughty. These young defensemen have played fantastic considering the situation they have been put in. If they can get some valuable playoff experience, they could really continue to grow into a strong group next year.
Overall, there has been a lot of negativity on these boards the last few years. Some of it is justified, some of it perhaps not. Management has made some good moves (ie: Danault, Arvidsson, drafting), and made some bad moves (ie: Kovalchuck).
Coaching decisions have been hit and miss. Putting together the Danault-Moore-Arvidsson line turned out to be a great move. I also give the coaching staff credit for the success of our young defensemen. On the other hand, McClellans determination to play Dustin Brown rather than give some of the young guys more playing times has been a little frustrating to me. DB23 has had a great career with the Kings, but he unfortunately just doesn't have it anymore. My final complaint about coaching is in regards to the handling of our youngsters. I wish they would be put into more of a role to develop/succeed offensively. But seeing as how I am not a scout, coach, or at all qualified to be part of an NHL team in any form, maybe I just don't understand what's best for these young players' development.
