WHAT THEY'RE SAYING – 'Game was boring as shit, which is a typical LA Kings game' Edition

majormajor : Oh I'll be up. I'm on the West Coast so it's nice to have a game a bit later.

aRussian : I'll be up since I have to miss half the games for work it seems. Really hoping they show up as it was always a bummer to stay up and have the team no-show on the western road swings

apocalypse : Who has been the best player on Columbus this season? I assume it's Laine. Our best player has probably been Kempe. He has a career high in goals this year and so does Danault. Should be a good game.

NotWendell : It's been Boone Jenner, but he's still out.

Grouchy : Nope.

Not staying up for this one.

Nope.

Vapaatunnus : WTF was that defense?

I3LI3 : lol Laine. literally ZERO defensive effort there. staring at the puck with not a care in the world.

The Jones Zone : wow Patrick

CBJWerenski8 : This is so sad. We’re not even competing in this game

CBJWerenski8 : I don’t care about winning or losing. I do care about getting ran out of the building. That period didn’t help anyone, especially Johnson. That was a disgusting period to watch

People Got mad when Boston and Minnesota pushed us around (rightfully) but at least it forced us to get involved in the game. The kings aren’t pushing us around but they’re enforcing their will and get anything they want. To me, that’s worse.

Cowumbus : Eh I think it’s just a slow start. LA isn’t a bad team either.

Youngguns80 : Got it watching ESPN+ but man they look asleep. I don’t mind losing if we are competing but damn we look bad.

VT : I don't think he didn't try but didn't wait a pass to Danault so one didn't have time to react. Don't forget Laine isn't Nyquist or Kuraly who would probably differently.

majormajor : Bjorkstrand looks like he's up past his bedtime. Or at least he's playing like it.

CBJWerenski8 : Game was boring as shit, which is a typical LA Kings game.

Back at it tomorrow, hopefully a more entertaining game

The Jones Zone : seen just about enough of Laine in a CBJ uniform

no team concept

This thread is hella weird to read.

Gotta say, even though I was cheering for you tonight because I want the Oilers to play the Kings instead of a miraculously healthy Golden Knights, I think it's hella impressive to go from a .438 points percentage to a .584 in one season.

The Kings seem like a success story this year no matter what happens and I don't know why some of ya'll are so negative about your team...

It's been a bizarre season. The Kings torched the Eastern Conference. Only the Hurricanes and Lightning won both games. The Moore-Danault-Arvidsson line has to be producing the majority of the points now. The Kings are at their worst against their own division. Despite having a huge amount of injuries on the blueline, they've kept their heads above water and are playing meaningful games in the final weeks.

1st line got clapped all night as expected, they basically all took on AA's identity, take a rush chance and suck on defense, pray for a goal. It was only surprising that they got bailed out by quick and that AA didn't get his token 'return game' points.

Danault line is an absolute machine and about the only reason we're winning games. It's so funny watching them play on a different planet than the Kopitar line at this point. bubble hockey vs. dynamic hockey.

Lizotte line looked okay-ish for the most part, faded as game went along but Lizotte was still generating through aggression, they didn't play much. Iafallo looks better in this role, seems a little more energetic, and bless Brownie for channeling his old self for at least much of the first period.

Kaliyev was actually really beefy tonight and Kupari was alright, Lemeiux still isn't 'back' from his injury though. But I def. though Kaliyev earned more minutes, he was making good puck protection plays and sealing dudes off with checks...

Roy, like Lemeiux, not all the way 'back' from injury and if history is any indication it's gonna take him some time. He did make some killer shot blocks though and had his stick in Laine's shooting lane at all times. Edler is similar, a little shaky at times but at least isn't giving up much on defense.

Maatta is a roller coaster again lately but tonight he was good. Plus he stole Voracek's nose and I still can't stop laughing about how you miss an airborne puck so badly you grab someone's face.

I thought Durzi looked a lot stronger tonight, minutes peeled back probably helped. But Spence...absolute beast.

And definitley thank Quick for a vintage performance, that was some 2012 ish with the lack of run support. Hope he can go on a little run here.

everyone looked bad in the 1-3-1 though, yay tm /partyhorn

Edit: Oh and Kopitar 22 minutes, Kaliyev 9, for those that are keeping track of that sort of thing. 'Meritocracy' indeed.

This year was a step in the right direction. My concern is whether or not next year will be another step forward or a step backward. Kopitar looks like he is starting to slow down, and he is only getting older, will be 35 at the start of the next season. The only forward prospect so far who looks like he is ready to take that next step is Kaliyev. Byfield and Vilardi are still trying to adjust to the NHL game, and Turcotte still can't seem to crack the lineup at all (especially frustrating with Turcotte, seeing as how Zegras was drafted just a few spots later). Kupari has shown flashes, so hopefully, he can take a big step forward next year.

Quick is getting older as well, and Peterson hasn't really shown that he can take over that #1 spot.

I do expect the defense to be much improved next year with a healthy Drew Doughty. These young defensemen have played fantastic considering the situation they have been put in. If they can get some valuable playoff experience, they could really continue to grow into a strong group next year.

Overall, there has been a lot of negativity on these boards the last few years. Some of it is justified, some of it perhaps not. Management has made some good moves (ie: Danault, Arvidsson, drafting), and made some bad moves (ie: Kovalchuck).

Coaching decisions have been hit and miss. Putting together the Danault-Moore-Arvidsson line turned out to be a great move. I also give the coaching staff credit for the success of our young defensemen. On the other hand, McClellans determination to play Dustin Brown rather than give some of the young guys more playing times has been a little frustrating to me. DB23 has had a great career with the Kings, but he unfortunately just doesn't have it anymore. My final complaint about coaching is in regards to the handling of our youngsters. I wish they would be put into more of a role to develop/succeed offensively. But seeing as how I am not a scout, coach, or at all qualified to be part of an NHL team in any form, maybe I just don't understand what's best for these young players' development.

Were you sad when EDM let go of McClellan?

Staples has been super quiet of late it seems.
Watching teams like Avs, Fla, Stl, Minne - the stadiums rock pretty much the whole game.. crypto is still in a deep coma after years of a garbage product.. its still not exactlyl fun to watch.. winning will cure everything

I liked Todd. I think after like 5 problematic coaches he was a big stabilizing force here and got us from an 10 year playoff drought to the second round of the playoffs. I don't think they do as well without him that year.

In the end I felt he was a victim of Chiarelli's brutal, awful, no good, terrible roster management. He took all that skill out of the line-up and replaced them with coke machines. How was Todd supposed to win with three good players?

There were warts. I didn't love the special teams. But there are always warts and the guy who ran that historically bad PP is now our head coach and he's doing great. So who can guess how these things go?

There's nothing to be excited about. The fanbase has no hunger.

There were crowds in the pre-cup days that were much much more raucous and energized than the crowds at Crypto now.

Sometimes I wonder if the dead atmosphere contributes to the team being so lethargic at home.
