As you know, I love Faber and have been hyping him for awhile here, but is a defensive d-man really going to help us a ton?

I wish we had a Brink, Knies or Brisson to pull from an NCAA team, that is the type of prospect we could use immediately.

If Iafallo were to be benched it would have happened by now. People grasping for straws talking about his “excellent” defensive play as justification for him, sounds like Richards “intangibles” as justification 8 years ago.

I see the same player, guys who lost a step in their late 20’s and it completely collapsed their game. Iafallo will be in the NHL again next year, sadly probably on LA but if he plays the first 50 games next season the way he has played the final 50 this year it could be the end of the road.

I have no evidence of this.. but it reminds me of baseball players that get off the juice
 
The Kings played pretty well overall.

But it's the same story. There's a reason why they're -40 or whatever in goals above expected.

6-24-5 (24.2%) when the opponent scores 3 or more goals in regulation

16-23-5 (44.5%)

9-18-2 (34.4%)

Vegas
12-25-4 (34.1%)

Just a lot of pressure on our goaltenders and defense because this team just can't score enough (again).

Kings need to go all in on Filip Forsberg. I don’t see the talent in the rookies enough to justify trusting them. The amount of misses today
 
Does anyone feel that Byfield will potentially become a 100 pt type player once he fully grows and gains more experience? The problem I see, the numerous years of the Kings struggles to score goals will hold back Byfield at putting up no more than a 80 pt player. I can't understand it. Why do the Kings not develop any goal scorers? They need to develop some Bernie Nichol types, and bring in the Kurri and Gaborik types of goal scorers. Right now all they got is Kempe, Danualt and that is it. Thought Avardsson would be another goal scorer, but he doesn't always have it for every game. The Kings badly need some snipers that can score from inside the face-off circles(would be such a help scoring even strength and on the PP). It would also help to get some back end scoring other than Doughty.

As much as I would like to see it, the last time the Kings had a 100 pt player was Gretzky and that was in 1993. LOL, almost 30 years ago.

We just dont have the offensive system to have that kind of "generational" talent. Is it possible? Yes. Will it happen? Not likely in the Kings organization, especially not under Tmac the Dinosaur who likes to keep kopitar with iafallo and kempe. Kopitar definitely had the potential to be a 100pt player in 2017. If kopitar was under a different system I have no doubt he would be a multi 100 pt player.

This is spot on. I haven’t posted in a while but needed to let a little frustration out. Is it just me or has Kopitar looked extremely slow the past month+. I know he’s 34 now and of course it’s going to come with age but jeez, it doesn’t look good. This may be it for him. I’m sure he’ll still be effective but we can’t expect top line AK11 anymore like the years past. He can barely get around defenders. It’s incredibly frustrating.

Agreed. Mayor mentioned this in some recent interviews. They’re lacking that top 6 winger goal scoring threat. Those guys don’t grow on trees, so it’ll likely need to be done via trade. The Kings have a ton of assets and prospects at their disposal. They need to make a few moves this off-season, including a top 4 defenseman.
 
I watched the live ESPN feed as I am in the US, so it much a much easier watch rather than relying on my tablet, usually a couple of hours (+) behind live. So my random thoughts...

1. Durzi really struggled and his flaws really came to the fore. He’s certainly getting too many minutes but right now it’s clear if this team ever becomes a contender (with him in it) then he will be the No1 whipping boy on here. I don’t see how there is any chance he gets north of 3 million as some suggested. He looks like a #6 pp specialist, at best, to me.

2. I prefer Kupari on wing

3. Vilardi and Byfield had some nice moments. The production must surely follow. Shouldn’t it?

4. I really like Spence. Roy definitely brought something to the blue line that was missing but Spence was the standout D man in my eyes. I also liked Bjornfots game.

5. The second pp unit looked way better than pp1.

6. The second line was definitely our major scoring threat all thought Danault made a couple of bad defensive plays. The only player on the top line that looked like making anything happen was Kempe.


I thought the compete was there but we really have to start taking chances. Making Smith look good is never a positive. I really thought the Oilers were there for the taking and it was a game we definitely should have won.

This is the maddening part....PP2 clearly generating more chances but TMAC hell bent on continuing going to a well that has clearly run dry. Arvidsson clearly feeling it and heating up but gets the PP crumbs. Absurd.

If that’s the case then this team is regressing massively next season..
As much shit as Kopitar gets, he still leads this team in scoring by a wide margin, remove him from the equation and Kempe isn’t having his breakout as that would have made Danault the default 1C and Kempe wouldn’t have played on the top unit.
Iafallo playing like shit has been a nightmare as all you have to do it collapse on Kopitar and you in effect shutdown the top line..
Over a full season if you swap AI with Kaliyev, you’re likely looking at a high scoring line with 3 guys that can easily score 20+ goals.
