With this many injuries, I say you actually don't make any trades. This season is house money, don't go full knee jerk now. It's beyond frustrating, but what does adding 1 or 2 big names do to fill out 6 roster spots wroth of injuries? Stay the course. I don't even know if I believe that what I'm saying is right, but this feels like now is not the time to over react.
you are 100% correct

Are people still going to give me shit for worrying about Kopitar or have we finally officially passed that event horizon
Ive been saying it too.. its beyond obvious .. first notice in the first overtime of the year and kept watching for it

5th highest paid forward on the team.

I don't know what answer to give you. I'm not the coach in charge of any of this stuff. It's just pretty clear that the more experienced you are, the more chances you get. It's not this isn't working for a few weeks, you're out. It's obviously not 45 games and it's not working, you're out. It'll be at least one more game. It's the same with Kopitar's minutes. How many times can people ask why? It's because he's Kopitar, has 2 Cups, been loved by every coach he's ever had since he was 3 weeks old, etc.

I'm sure you can go through pretty much every team, and it'll be the same story. The more veteran guys get their time. Unless a young guy is just undeniable, he'll probably be brought along slowly. Especially when you bring in vets to play scoring roles. Young guys don't usually push vets down the lineup. You purposefully open up a spot for a young guy, by not keeping or bringing in a vet, put him there, leave him there, and then he gets the chance to stay in that spot and prove that he sucks.

It's weird how that works.
For some reason, Byfield has been gifted the 3C job since he got healthy - no matter how ineffective he is. It's clear, from the stats, advanced stats and eye test.
I look at Vilardi last year
54 games 10-13-23 -8
vs Byfield this year
19 games 2-1-3 +0 (57 games 6-3-9)
And I remember Vilardi getting benched mid-season when he definitely needed a break.

In Detroit - Raymond and Seider have been given every opportunity since game 1. First line. 1st unit. First PP unit. Etc.
I think the stats for both guys are a bit inflated, but it beats the f*** out of watching them struggle all year. Then again, Detroit isn't playing for anything.

Iafalo's had a weird year.
First 13 games 6-7-13 +4 18:13/night 47 shots
Next 31 games 8-7-15 +1 18:58/night 82 shots
Last 13 games 0-2-2 +1 18:17/night 29 shots

Last year he averaged 19"53/night
Something happened in the last 13 games where Iafalo's shots are way down. But they still aren't bad. Might have a lot to do with the powerplay continuing to suck.

The Red Wing Iafalo reminds me of is Bertuzzi. Heavy stick. Wins board battles. Keeps shifts in the ozone.
Bertuzzi was having a great season until slowing down over the last 15 games or so.

Kopitar will keep getting the minutes because who else is going to get them? Byfield? Lizotte?

Because the young players on the Kings underwhelm time and time again and will continue to see their value fall. We are in 2nd place and committed to trying to win over the summer, and even though I disagreed with that, might as well follow through.. I’m not not saying to trade QB, Clarke, Arty or Faber for a rental but if you can get someone who can help your roster and you are giving up depreciating assets like Vilardi, Turcotte, Kupari, JAD or a 1st rounder outside the top 20 you do it. A guy like Boeser or Garland is going to be in the lineup now for this run and next season, can the same be said of any of those guys with any certainty at this point?
I’d remove Vilardi from that list, but fair enough otherwise. Just pisses me off that we’re wasting all this time trying to be competitive on the backs of rotting corpses.

He’s a low end 1c. No longer capable of carrying linemates to production like he used to. See Iafallo’s struggles this year. And his all around game has fallen off quite a bit, but he’s 35 this year with 1300 games in the NHL and a massive amount of minutes, shouldn’t be a surprise.

But it’s cool, surely one of those four centers the Kings took with 2, 5, 11, 20 picks has to be pretty close to having the torch passed to them.

Right…Right…?

Just an insane amount of pressure on QB to hit and be that guy. You wonder if maybe that has something to do with his struggles thus far, he has the entire weight of the rebuild on his shoulders and he and everyone else knows it.

Forget Cal, why were Sharks allowed to just stand around in the crease untouched?

Need to put SOMEONE on their asses.

Trade for Soucy or Lauzon

I think Labarbera showed more promise as a prospect than Cal has so far.

Well Vets suck this game and a bunch of kids. No excuses but that's what happens when injuries ravage a team.

The Vancouver stuff makes no sense to me. Earlier in the year, sure. Now? How is Van not looking at this and saying, we can catch the Kings? They have NJ, Det, Buf coming up. 7pts behind. Not easy, but not insurmountable.
