Kaliyev could be heard saying “wait a God damned minute here.”

Wouldn't it be even greater if Kaliyev was heard saying "I am thankful to have this amazing opportunity to play in the NHL. Despite what a bunch or armchair GMs have to say, you play me wherever the f*** you want!"

I would have preferred it to be Vilardi brought up and playing wing on the top line. But hey, this is cool -- somewhat bizarre considering the way our FO/coaches handle things recently but cool.

yeah this definitely feels a bit out of left field

i don't have a fundamental problem with the change minus grundstrom getting shafted AGAIN, but talk about an opportunity for JAD.. hope he runs with it cause this is totally out of character for the org

i understand keeping the 4th line together but at the same time i fear this is how you build seeds of resentment with kaliyev, that is unless he's getting a PP1 promotion

Sure sounds a bit dramatic to me...

how out of character, an argumentative, belittling post with no content

What do you need me to say? I feel it’s ridiculous that Kaliyev would go off pouting and crying because he wasn’t promoted to 1st line over JAD? If that actually happen, I would hope he gets traded immediately. I have a little more faith in these kids that they are learning to be professionals, you obviously do not.

No one seriously thinks Kaliyev is pouting. Are you trying to dethrone the resident king of strawmen around here?

And yet....someone seriously said that it could lead to resentment...... if that's all it takes to lead to resentment, guy is right, trade Kaliyev as he wouldn't have what it takes to be a professional.

in any line of work if you are out preforming or meeting expectations you want to get promoted. It's as simple as that.
I doubt Kaliyev is bitching about it, but somewhere inside him I imagine he wishes he got that spot. The coaching staff have been very pleased publicly with Kaliyev, and chances are he feels that too.

JAD/Kopi/Kempe, maybe it's really Kopi/JAD/Kempe & Kopi just takes the faceoffs & pretends to play C?

The Brown thing might be causing me to crack.

Lemme pull out one of my strawmen favorites in response…

Thank god you’re not the Kings GM. Anyone who’s played Major Midget on the top bantam club in the backwaters of rural Alberta understands that not all players mature right away. That’s why you surround them with vets who show them what it takes to be a pro.

So I guess we can add illiteracy to your stack of accomplishments? Or do you have that guy on ignore and never saw the post?

He isnt that slow. Gets where he needs to go and actually moves pretty well for his size when he picks up steam.
I think Axl Rhoadz said it best. They arent looking to break up the lines that are working.
He's slow and Kopitar is getting slower. I doubt if you ever see them together on the same line. Yes, teams don't like to break up lines that are working -- until they aren't.

more and more teams seem to keep pairs together. I see LA's pairs as Kopitar and Kempe, RV and Danault (although why would you ever not include Moore), Lemieux and Lizotte. 3rd line is currently trying to figure out that pair, and I moving around anyone not mentioned above is fair.

That's a good point. Although I would not be surprised to see Kaliyev (next year) on Danault's line.

JAD has been pretty good this season tipping and redirecting pucks for goals. That rarely happens on the big club, so let's see one tonight!

He's been absolutely $$$ when him and Spence are out on the PP together. Both of them have absolutely racked up the points lately.

I don't think JAD going to the top line would cause resentment but it does cause ongoing questions, like why him and Fagemo get the red carpet treatment while other prospects have to dig trenches for the vets to shit in while they're still digging. But whatever.

Re Iafallo I'm getting a good laugh because some people are going 'well the stats aren't there' and well, Iafallo when not scoring is one of the best defensive wingers in the league by all metrics and by the eye test. The difference is when Iafallo isn't producing, he's opening lanes, defending hard, forechecking, and generally still helping; when Brown isn't producing he's giving pucks away like he's part of the promotions team and can't even get into either zone to be a liability.

I'm just happy they actually shook things up for once as it suggests a pulse even if i don't like it. I expect the team will react accordingly.

Well, I wanted Iafallo with Byfield before the season started and here we are: hope I don't look as dumb as usual.

The Kings have two consistent lines: Danault's and Lizotte's. You don't want to pull the full line blender out at game 56 or whatever just because you've lost two in a row.

Iafallo is a true pro that is going to play the game the right way and knows what to do out there. Totally unselfish player. Responsible. Byfield needs that type of presence on his line as he gets comfortable at the NHL level: the hope here is that it helps him learn how to be a pro as opposed to playing like this is still the OHL.

Could you put Grundstrom up with Kopitar instead of JAD? Sure, but his play the last few games isn't worthy of a promotion. JAD earned his call-up and is the logical choice when you factor in not disrupting the two lines the coaching staff can actually rely on.

I don't expect Kaliyev to move to the PP1 unit since keeping Iafallo on it lessens any perceived demotion type talk. Kaliyev is my favorite prospect but I'm fine with the treatment: I just want the coaches to play the 2nd unit more than they currently do. As a a matter of fact, just go ahead and start them as the PP1 unit sometimes: stop being married to even having a first and second unit. They'll have the Kopitar line out there with Doughty, they draw the penalty after a full shift and then they still toss them out to start the PP.

Pretty amazing first year for Kaliyev already, IMO. He looks faster and is winning more battles. His supposed weaknesses are being fixed and that shot isn't going anywhere. Fifth on the team in shots in only 12:30 minutes of ice per game. The goal totals will rise once he gets more minutes and is with more skilled offensive players.

Not sure if it is an indictment of the other forward prospects or an indictment of the Kaliyev bashers that he is the best NHL player out of all these guys at the moment.
