Grundstrom is leaving this org. What a shit sandwich that guy gets.

Edit: if you want to harp on performance there are plenty of guys who could come out after the last two games and without the success he had prior to.

Stoked for JAD at least, he's definitely earned it hard this year, and I can appreciate the 'comparison' to Iafallo in jamming him on the top line as a complementary puck digger.

Excited to see JAD in the lineup tonight! Surprised he'll be lining up on the top line though. The net benefit here is that Byfield gets to be with Iafallo now, although I certainly wish Brown would take a seat for a bit. It'll be interesting to see how Byfield responds with (theoretically) a better linemate.

Given the depth of our prospect pool, can you imagine if JAD (a guy we had penciled in the bottom six) turns into a first-line guy? What an embarrassment of riches.

Iafallo demotion just had to happen, he has been one of the worst players on the team for way to long to keep that role he was playing in. I'm actually shocked it took this long, I suspect it would have been sooner had the team not been winning. Would rather have AK up there, but JAD should be decent at digging pucks out for Kopitar and Kempe.

Hoping Kaliyev takes his spot on the #1 PP.

Kaliyev for sure will see more PP time.
I would not call Iafallo one of the worst players. His defensive stats are very impressive. Third line is where he should be. Hopefully he takes some pressure off of QB defensively.

Intresting lineup.

Laine with 14G, 7A in last 11 games.

We got this!

Edit: Hopefully I won't get the Sacramento Kings televised tonight instead of Hockey. So much stupid.

He was on the #1 line and the #1 PP unit for most of the season. He has to be more than a defensive player. He has 1 goal and 1 assist over his last 12 games. He has not been anywhere close to pulling his weight in the role he was given.

Only if you are obsessed with the stat sheet.

Kopitar and Kempe have been contributing plenty and a whole lot of that is due to the work away from the puck put in by Iafallo opening lanes, recovering pucks, forechecking and applying the back pressure that creates the turnovers that the line has turned into attacks.

There is what really happens and then there's this obsession with data that clouds judgement more than it illuminates it.

Yes, it would be better if Iafallo got on the board, but no, he hasn't been "one of the worst on the team" at any period of the year.

Grundstrom's addition to the third line took them from purely rush chances to being able to forecheck and work a cycle. Adding Iafallo keeps those same aspects but adds the ability of converting them into scoring chances.

I asked for this after the last game because its the best opportunity for Byfield to start producing. Wouldn't have guessed that JAD would be put in that Kaliyev shaped hole, but this is the best unit you can give Byfield without weakening the other units.

JAD on the top line is interesting. Bold move. They had him pegged as a 4th line center and now he could be a top line winger. Whats Kaliyev gotta do to get there
Suddenly become a speedster? We aren't likely to see two slow guys on the same line.

Why "for sure"? His ass was stapled to the bench last game in the 3rd when we got a PP, needed a goal and he was looking for a hat trick. A goal we didn't get, and lost the game. Must be some of that obvious genius from our "unquestionable because we're currently in second place" coaching staff.

Oh yes, the same lame "stats watcher" argument that people give anytime people are critical of production. I'll give you credit though atleast it's not being followed up by the "viral infection" excuse that often follows as the reason for the terrible production.

Sorry, if you are playing on the #1 scoring line and the #1 PP unit there has to be an expectation of production. There is, and he isn't providing it so he is going down to a role where his lack of offensive production the last 15 games won't matter because that line hasn't scored all year. Hopefully JAD's hot-streak in the AHL can carry over to some production on that 1st line.

I don't think Iafallo is a terrible player, but he has not been pulling his weight in his expected role and he has to go to a role where that won't be hurting the team as much.

He isnt that slow. Gets where he needs to go and actually moves pretty well for his size when he picks up steam.
I think Axl Rhoadz said it best. They arent looking to break up the lines that are working.

Would it be silly to swap QB and JAD?
I like that idea a lot.. JAD is basically a 3rd line center - where he belongs. Kopi for sure would be a great partner for Byfield with nice little passes in the ozone to set him up for a shot. Less responsibility for Byfield on defense as well..
