PP has stalled because teams are overplaying Laine - Habs haven’t found an alternate solution yet

Yeah when I saw how Minnesota covered him I laughed. One guy standing next to Laine and a 4 on 3 PP elsewhere. But they couldn't convert on the chances.

Teams will do this if the 4 on 3 doesn't produce as much as Laine does. They are picking the lesser poison

If anyone still wonders who has the best shot, you can show that PP coverage and end any conversation on it. Teams do not do that against anyone else. They know.

Great interview, so happy to see he has grown up as a person and can handle things not going his way. Smart kid, that was always apparent
In Slovakia we say: "Reči sa hovoria, chlieb sa je (Speeches are spoken, bread is eaten)". We shall see what the future will show us.

I dont remember how many injury to the same knee he had over his career, but yeah that second line is worriesome

Thing could take a 180° degree next year with Demidov instead of Newhook, all Laine will have to do is wait to snipe, while Demidov will operate his magic with an hopefully improved Dach

Good player when he's scoring but god he is awful 5 on 5. Lethal on the PP though. Can see how he's bounced around despite his talent level

I'd keep the second line together (as the third line) and try to find a legit center for Demidov and Slaf

I don’t want rookie Demidov doing all the work for Laine and back checking for 2.

I don't think there's a worse player in the league 5 vs 5

Sean Monahan part 2. There are a few different scenarios and none of them is that bad for the Habs, as long as management plays this intelligently and everything suggests that they will.

1) He doesn't improve enough to be a part of the team moving forwards and we trade him at next TDL for more than we gave to acquire him.
2) He is injured at TDL next year and we give him the Monahan special 1 year contract to help him boost his value.
3) He somehow puts it all together next year, moves past the injuries and we sign him to a team friendly medium-long term contract.

The "bad" scenarios

4) Lose him for nothing after next year (somewhat likely but not especially bad)
5) Sign him to albatross contract (very bad but also very unlikely imo)

Dach is no slouch defensively you know it

I was more talking in the offensive zone anyway

You are suggesting something like this ?

X Suzuki Caufield
Slaf X Demidov
Laine Dach Newhook

If you want all Laine's interview from that Finnish site in English, here is it:

There's a quote in there that is absolutely Subbanesque and got the alarm bells ringing:

I’m not just a hockey player. I’m a person too. " A year ago he was thinking if hockey really is his thing
Yeah, I remember with each passing year Subban putting more and more emphasis on telling the world he was "more than a hockey player" and packing pounds and living the life on the 'gram while he got worse on the ice.

Laine is half-assing it, hoping to milk one more big contract out of the league, but he's already more interested in the latest PS5 offering than playing 5v5 hockey.

It's not too late for him to turn things around, but it's getting late. I am glad St.Louis is calling him out.

Rough night for Laine. Hopefully this will wake him up a bit. Nobody expects him to be defensive Gretzky out there but showing some hustle and moving his feet would be good step forward.

It didn't help that the powerplay was also really struggling to get to the zone yesterday.

He f***ing sucks lol. It's hard to watch. And I know it's not his fault, he was recently injured and it affects his mobility. But yeah. He turns like a transatlantic liner.
Him and Dach make the battleship line, maybe the cruise line lol

Laine doesn't put the effort in. Can't blame this on injury because he was much better in December. Great skill but floats for long periods of time.

Yeah him bearing all, it’s all a devious ploy

Laine is more famous in Finland than any of the Habs are in Montreal. He’s a mega-celebrity over there so it’s a unique pressure, I don’t think he cares much about the heat from NHL media
