Look how easy it was to score goals in the 1980's but no one is criticizing that era.

In the modern NHL, defense will always be foundational, so you do whatever you can to score. The reason Zegras is doing "The Michigan" there isn't to showboat; he's doing it because it's a highly effective way to score a goal in that situation.

It reminds me of when people were complaining about the slam dunk in basketball.

it's kind of a common thread in competition of all kinds right? i bet when the first long rifle came around all the musket line guys were like "f***IN p***yES GET A REAL GUN" but guess what you gotta change your tactics now whether you like it or not

if guys are swinging behind the net going exclusively for michigans, maybe you can't afford to play the "home plate" defense with a defenseman on each post, maybe the far guy has to commit under the line. that's not the forward's fault, that's the defense's failure to adapt

People complained about curved stick blades.

Way back in the day you couldn't even make a forward pass. I'm sure people complained when that rule was changed.

I don't understand what people are saying about this leading to less hard work or whatever. Skill is the result of hard work.

I bet Zegras has put in more work to perfect his skill set than the vast majority of other players. That's why he's so good.
