AA has always had tremendous skill.

If he would just play a more responsible game he could be such a valuable player.

My favorite part of that period was the two Islanders battling each other along the boards and Byfield gesturing to the refs like "Uhh, wtf?"

Not a fan of quoting myself, but got a screen grab of it.

I really don't understand what Tortorella is concerned about.

That said, I still like the guy. I like that he's an actual personality and is opinionated. He's much more interesting than most ho-hum nice guy hockey pundits.

The only thing I'd be worried about concerning the Michigan goals, is at some point some big angry defender is gonna catch someone unaware and lay 'em out pretty good. Love seeing the skill though.

I agree a little with Torts, NHL becoming NCAA, juniors. Now you got kids trying this during game time, in all leagues. If goals are scored just too showboat, in the old days the player would finish the game with no teeth. Now it goes viral.

I'm fine with Zegras's goal. I can see a debate about whether it should be allowed, but I don't know why anyone would want to disallow that anyway. It's pretty damn hard to pull off and it figures it'd only work on Montreal.

i think torts was fair

i don't particularly want to watch kids doing 720 rodeo flip cartwheels down the ice while balancing the puck on their helmet either. there's individual efforts then there's team plays, the foundations are in team play

sometimes watching steph curry chuck 3s from half court is fun, sometimes it's melo clanking 10 in a row yknow..

I dont care for Zegras goal. Doesn't do anything for me. I guess if its there take it but I dont see how its an amazing goal.

i think it's pretty sick that guys are coming up with the attempt on the fly now instead of just from standing still behind the net, i respect that kind of quick thinking

but like you said, it doesn't do a whole lot for me, i'm not freaking out about it like some people. it's just a neat goal really

You aren't allowed to hit someone hard at the side of the net with their head down anymore. NHL banned it last playoffs.

I agree. I can't stand Tortorella, but I agree with the premise of not letting the game veer off from effort, thinking you can get away with skill alone.

"you heard it there on our ESPN+ audio"

Look how easy it was to score goals in the 1980's but no one is criticizing that era.

In the modern NHL, defense will always be foundational, so you do whatever you can to score. The reason Zegras is doing "The Michigan" there isn't to showboat; he's doing it because it's a highly effective way to score a goal in that situation.

It reminds me of when people were complaining about the slam dunk in basketball.
