Look dude, JAD has done nothing since last year's injury. Yeah, it sucks but its the way it is. Live with it.
Until this week neither has Moore is the point. I dont think JAD should be in the lineup even so you arent offending me. I just dont understand why one was given a long leash and one was given none. Coach has his favorites is probably the answer.

Maybe he takes practices seriously or otherwise puts the extra work in.

Veteran/Rookie I'm truly sorry if you don't understand that.

*** The (2) Phantom Calls
I hardly complain about the reffing. Some calls go your way, some go against you. It washes out in the end, right?

But those (2) calls against Lemieux (in the 2nd, I believe) and Lizzote in the 3rd were some of the worst calls I've seen in a long, long time. In fact, they weren't calls in the first place.

I understand it for teams like Toronto and Colorado. But for a team that tanked and did a rebuild youd think they want to see what they have moving forward. Hope the vets can keep building on the wins and make the playoffs but at the same time theres a cost and you gotta wonder whats being sacrificed long term.

I said it before the last game, but I think this is the best lineup the Kings have iced all season.

Iafallo/Kempe are high quality wingers. The top line is serviceable now with both them on it.

Any line with Danualt is going to be solid. So the 2nd line is also working.

We know the Lizotte line is clicking.

So we just need one more line to click. The Turcotte line is difficult to evaluate due to limited ice time but they look promising. If it works out we've got 4 quality lines we can roll, plus we're getting excellent goaltending from Quick. That should make for a very competitive team.

Only problem is Brown is coming back soon. Todd needs to be a man and make the hard decision. I think the forward lines should stay as is for awhile.

We didn't talk about it much but Flyers were also on a 7 game point streak so that's a strong, convincing win vs. a similar team.

Good game. Best part was how the Kings answered the Flyers. No collapse, not giving up goals in bunches.

Yes--THIS is the kind of improvement I'm talking about. Not getting all shook up and melting down, just getting right back down to business. Sort of like the other night the Durzi/Bjornfot pairing was a little jittery but everyone else seemed to iron it out quickly.

BUT also, we got bailed out big by Quickie again. There were a lot of shots I think could have scored and I wouldn't even have been mad. Petersen is f***ed for the near future so long as we have a Vezina candidate.

Through out the game there was lots of smiles on Kings players faces. It's small thing, but it's nice to know the atmosphere around the team is good.

I noted that in the Arvidsson post gamer too, he talked about how inspiring it is working next to energetic kids and vice versa.

I know people were ragging on Fox in the pregame for talking about 'identity' but this last stretch is the first time I've seen anything like that developing and it seems to be bringing everyone together, I'd say our identity is Lizotte

Yeah once the 'fourth' line was figured out all eyes were on the third, it's been the rotating door all season that no one can seem to nail down. Turcotte and Grundstrom seem to share one brain and don't work great together, but there aren't many other options at this point. Kupari looks better at wing, frankly, but not by much. I imagine that's Byfield's spot when he returns and Turcotte will go back down. I don't want him to, I think he could learn a lot more over 10 games or so here, but if he's gonna be getting the freakshow line for 5-10 min a game, he's better off playing big minutes in Ontario (if they'll let him back on the PP1, cough. )

Also props on 500 wins to Todd McLellan.

I question his decisions a lot more than I should but very happy for him. By all accounts he's a good man and even more importantly seems to genuinely care about everyone around him so professional hockey decisions aside haha congrats!

I also can't remember a ref giving a guy a 10 without a 2 attached. That was a head scratcher...never mind that the Lizotte 'penalty' came seconds after to put the kings on a 5v3.

I think Lizotte is now guilty by association due to playing with Pepe. It's the only way I can explain it. The other is gross incompetence of the officials.

...and it followed with a Flyers goal when they added the 6 on 3. Turning point in the game right there.

Refs need to call the game but not insert themselves into the game.

Side note: Was it too many men on the ice? As memory serves, that was what Fox was questioning. If so, def. should have been a 2 min penalty on top of the 10.

But if it was just a player (Konecny) mouthing off to an official then it can go either way, you don't have to add the 2.

that one actually got me digging in the rulebook a bit, seems like they really don't want that happening, 10 without 2.. i went back and only thing i see was kopi got away with a pretty solid slash on konecny there to prevent a scoring opportunity and he immediately threw his arms up and yelled at the ref, i'm assuming that it continued cause the whistle didn't go for quite a while and after his little tantrum all the yelling was off-screen

kinda interesting though, there's a table in the index that dictates all the situations where a misconduct applies and the only ones that fit are rules 39 and 75, "abuse of officials" and "unsportsmanlike conduct" and 75 only applies if the abuse is directed at another player. 39.4 is subtitled "misconduct penalties"

39.4(i) Any player who persists in the use of obscene, profane or abusive language towards any on or off-ice official for which he has already been assessed a minor or bench minor penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct.

39.4(viii) In general, participants displaying this type of behaviour are assessed a minor penalty, then a misconduct penalty and then a game misconduct penalty if they persist.

so like, you should only be given a misconduct if you already got a minor, and they even further clarify in the rule that "in general" it proceeds in that order. seems like it's actually not using the rulebook correctly to give 10 without 2

refs ignoring the rulebook? what's new right?

I assumed that was the case but didn't know if there was something different in the NHL rulebook. I've certainly never reffed at a level where you gave out a 10 separately. You usually give out the 2 because it puts the coach on notice that the player is hurting his team, and if he can't get it under control, he gets a 10 or the gate.

special team have messed up that lines icetime. He didn't see his first shift until 4 min into the game. It sort of went that way all night.

I'm away from my computer now but IIRC Drew had friggin 29 min of icetime, but 9 of it was special teams haha.

I remember being annoyed because he got the entire amount of PP time and Durzi got none.

Guess DD is fully recovered from COVID :dunno:

Konecny was pissed he didn;t get a call when Kopitar I think pushed him around the net, then barked at the ref the rest of the shift until he got on the bench. I guess you can call a ref a **** ******* a-hole , and it's only a 10 min penalty, but if you call him a stupid ******* **** ******* a-hole , it's a 10 + 2 penalty. Go figure.

The officiating in the 3rd was as bad as anything seen this season. That series alone had TM just livid on the bench. Follow that up with Pepe' getting pulled down at center ice, and then Kaliev being held from the blueline past the dots the next shift , was just mind boggling.

DD got all that pp time because he and the top unit never got off the ice after the first 2 pp. I'm pretty sure they had back to back pp of 2 straight min. Weird to see on the stat sheet. Doughty with 4 min of pp time, everyone else with zero.

They have Kopitar, brought in Danault, and kept Lizotte. That leaves 1 spot for every other C. It was going to be Byfield, it was Vilardi, Kupari has played there, JAD did get a couple games. Now Turcotte. In general, that's limited ice time for anyone playing there, but a lot of young guys have gotten that spot. Along with a couple games for Andersson and Moore.

Say what you want about Moore's lack of offense, but yeah, he's going to be a coach's favorite because he doesn't stop. He's not going to hurt you in the most important zone in the mind of a coach.

Bring in vets, and that's going to push young guys down. Especially ELC young guys who don't have to worry about waivers.

Moore didn't play any differently last night than he has the entire season (or last season, for that matter, but that's a different discussion). That was a prime example of "sometimes the puck goes in the net when you're on the ice and sometimes it doesn't" (i.e., on-ice shooting %).

I'm really happy those guys started getting rewarded because the play has been there, just not the production.

For Moore, it was something just wasn't clicking.
For Arvy, it was just raw shooting % (I knew it was going to correct at some point, just not in one single game haha).
For Danault, he just kind of stopped getting the puck to the net for a bit.

Funny because since all those guys had gone cold I figured both quarantining them on one line, facing Martin Jones, and struggling to get anyone else going would make it a low scoring game...but hockey.
