He was suspended for a hit that occurred on March 13th of 2020 (last Rangers game before COVID) but wasn't suspended until July when the "playoffs" started. He technically isn't a repeat offender if you go from 18 months from the hit but is a repeat offender if the use when the suspension was handed down in July of 2020.
Regardless, he has a reputation (earned) and biting is simply not a part of the game. Interference, elbowing, boarding, kneeing etc...are things that can happen within the flow of a game. Guy turns at the last second and a legal hit becomes a suspension. Bite a dude though? Even if he puts his hand in your mouth during a scrum, it's just not an action that you can really argue in favor of even if it is human nature to chomp down on the hand of someone you are fighting if they happen to put their hand in your mouth.
This league suspended a star player for playoff games last season simply for hitting someone too hard because it was high-profile and all the pearls were clutched. I feel like he's getting five games for sure and--no political opinions going on here--but the woke contingent of NHL Twitter that wants to get every aggressive player and play banned from the league are out for blood on this one and Lemieux is an easy sacrifice for the NHL. Who is going to be upset about a 10 game suspension? Kings fans. BFD for the NHL in the grand scheme of things. They'll also get to toss some bullshit in there about "how this is more dangerous in the time of COVID" so it looks like they give a shit even though they had Ottawa play the Kings with half a team out on the COVID list. Ottawa being the team this happened against is actually the worst possible opponent since the NHL can do a little mea culpa action for that garbage it pulled on the Sens earlier.
