I think Raccoon Jesus called the losing streak coming after the seven game win streak. Now watch them lay down and play like crap tomorrow against the Coyotes, who have two wins this season.
Maybe, keep in mind the 'yotes are playing tonight.

Shit. GAURANTEED L tomorrow then.
I think it'll get ugly.

Loui Eriksson with a multi-goal game; Ladd with a goal, Ghost will make us wish we had claimed him off waivers last year and Lemieux fights both Crouse and O'Brien.

Oh and that Antoine Roussel guy takes out Kopitar long term.

Hmmm correct me if I'm wrong I could have sworn we had a nice little win streak at the beginning of the season last year and got our hopes all high and all, aaaand then s**t the bed the rest if the way. Sort if feels like deja vu for some odd reason.

Cal looks terrible. Thats a big contract he was awarded. I wonder if JQ resurgence messed w his head. I think he was feeling like the man - and now he's JQs little bro. Whatever it is goalies are notoriously prone to turning into shit for long periods of time.. countless examples - Corey Hart last year comes to mind.

I mean, go to the last two years and you can just flipflop the names Cal and Quick. Odds are they aren't going to both be hot at once. This time last year this forum was trying to trade Quick for pennies on the dollar and quickly.

Cal had to play one of these two games, but it's pretty clear it's Quick's net right now.

Not trying to stick up for the guy too much because he's earned the criticism lately but there's a much larger sample size of Cal being very good than bad. But then again--we're spoiled by a possible future hall of fame goaltender after years of shit so he's also being held to the standard of that plus a fiery personality. We'd be lucky to have a goalie of Quick's caliber again soon, remember that (nevermind his unique drive/fire).

Toby and Mikey got schooled today against the best team in the league. -8 and 0 points. Edler and Roy a combined 3 pts and +5, so their experience showed. Hopefully they learn from this, they have been playing very well together. Cal couldn't come up with the big save tonight, but there weren't any soft goals either. 3 goals without a defender in sight, and two goals on deflections. Defensive struggles lost this game.

I almost posted that in the game thread -- they've switched identities. It seems like the last couple of seasons Quick would get lit up not making the big saves while Cal would be safe and steady (even with the losses). Then look at puckhandling, Quick suddenly looks like Brodeur with the puck and Cal (tonight) had that telltale Quick deer in headlights play. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

The biggest issue I have with our netminding overall is the lack of an upper level goaltending prospect to have in the pipeline should Cal not be the long-term answer. We have a few interesting prospects but the odds any of them pan out aren't great. I don't blame Blake for that, we have drafted five goalies in the last five years, but at some point we need to get back to have the succession lineup we developed in the past with guys like Bernier, Quick, Jones, etc. We've gone from that being arguably our biggest developmental success to perhaps our weakest and we now sit with a championship caliber pile of up and coming talent and a huge question mark in net.

Bjornfot is 20 and Anderson 22...I am 100% okay with them at this point in time. When they were victimized they were put in positions where they weren't able to sort out coverage quickly enough to do changes/bad turnovers. That will come. They're currently victims of circumstance, essentially playing--again, at 20-22--as #1/#2 d-men on a shitshow. If there's anyone on this roster I'm willing to give some slack, it's them. They are doing a lot of the little things at an elite level...and I'm happy the analytics are flattering of mikey in particular because he does a LOT that is completely underrated. Bjornfot at least visibly lugs the puck a bit more--Mikey is an absolute top-tier guy at taking an extra step or stickhandle to buy a forward some time before wiring an excellent pass even when the opponents know he's not going to skate it. Imagine those guys with the 3-4 more years of development that most dmen take.

And on that goal where mikey gets 'walked' a goalie having a normal night pokechecks that puck instead of halfassing a pokecheck and halfassing a save. That's the kind of breakdown in trust between the D and Cal tonight, neither believed the other could do their whole job.
Nice attempt at trying to lump Toby with Mikey.

Toby is on a different level than Mikey, they should never be compared

Mike Anderson isn't particularly good at anything at this point. The only reason he gets a spot is because he's younger and has some potential, but as of now he's not better than any mediocre dime-a-dozen NHL dman.
Yea he doesnt stand out skill wise. Neither did Scuderi. Mitchell was great and physical in his own zone but otherwise limited skill wise. These kind of dmen blossom at 27-28ish. I hated Forbort but always thought hed come into his own when he was considered a veteran. If Mikey is on a contender at age 28 he will be a good contributing veteran presence. I am not enamored with him like some but I see him becoming a good player.

Am I the only that didn't have any issues with Cal today ?

Brown and Mikey blew 2 of them and another was on a double deflection. Toby had an own goal too.

I dont blame him but a couple of em he could have bailed his team out. To beat teams like Carolina you sometimes need your goalie to save one or two he maybe shouldnt have and Cal didnt come through in that sense.

I do recall him making a big save when it was 4-4

He is not a top pairing d man. I don't see him ever being one.

And Mikey keeps getting beat on the same type of plays. Hence me questioning whether he is progressing

He's 22 years old with 76 career NHL games and getting trial by fire of having to eat Doughty's shutdown minutes.

He's not Doughty. He might top out as a top-4 defenseman. But career determinations under these circumstances and with this sample size is premature.

What an unnecessary post

It seems Blake agrees at least if the rumor we were chasing Wallstedt were true.

Well, I wasn't even trying to lump them together--I was literally just pointing out they were playing together and enduring the same circumstances but since you mention it....I think they're more alike than you want to admit. They're very different types of players: Bjornfot is a Toby Enstrom like smooth skating player who is very cerebral and above-average at everything while really excelling at nothing, Anderson is a Willie Mitchell type who's much more physical (and growing into it) but has an underrated offensive sense and some killer breakout moves. I think it's impressive that both can get beat then come back and tear it up the rest of the game when we've seen higher profile guys lose their minds afterwards, get shook up. He's unshakeable. And he's still learning. I think Bjornfot shares that characteristic (are we pretending Toby hasn't been beaten lately?). Did you miss the part where they're 20 and 22? They're kids, and shutdown D-men often don't stick until the mid-20s. These guys have both taken over for Drew f***ing Doughty and the team not only stayed afloat but went on a winning streak and Mikey, without any points, had literal league-leading metrics in a lot of ways. So sorry, yeah, they're gonna get lumped together and it's appropriate. I don't see why one can't get excited about both. I'm open to evidence you're willing to provide otherwise but it doesn't sound like you're willing to do much. They're similar in metrics, role, and playing time; what makes you think Bjornfot is so much greater?

What an unnecessary post

What an unnecessary overreaction.
