Arizona - November 21st

We may not get another win til maaaaybe Arizona on the 21st. And that's a big maybe. 1- 15 - 1 to start the season. Can you just imagine that. I think we may sneak in a win there but man with this Defense 40 and 32 may need to steal a game or two. Yikes.

Was at the game tonight, here are some observations:

  • This is the softest team in the league, zero passion out of any of them. I literally had to ask my friend if he noticed one solid Kings hit all game because I sure didn’t.
  • Only fun thing was watching Arty and Rasmus.
  • Saw Byfield taking pictures with some fans in the concourse on my way out. He still has the walking boot on and he is freaking huge in person.

It is amazing how we continue just finding ways to lose winnable games.

This was such a winnable game, especially in the 2nd. Once again , nobody could finish.
Kempe, while he had a goal, had 2 bad ozone penalties, one killed a pp. You can't do that, yet he does it all the time.
The officiating sucked ...bigtime. The call on Brown for interference when he was just standing there was bs, yet in the 3rd a jet skated out of his lane and took out a King ...nothing. Kupari getting body slammed after play was over was another crappy non call. Then Brown behind the net, late in the 3rd, has the puck, legs pulled out from him and the jets take the puck away. The jet player even knew it and was looking at the ref as he skated away expecting a call. Frustrating night all the way around.

It looks like they just forgot how to win close games.
Even if they play pretty well, which they did against Dallas, St.Louis Monday, and yesterday, and arguably outplayed the opponent, but they're just finding ways to lose.

The Kings have led in 5 of the last 6 games. They've lost 4 of the 6 in the 3rd period.

On top of the lack of instilling their will in a game, they can't score that extra goal, and they can't stop the other team from tying and winning the game, usually later in the contest.

That's a demoralizing way to lose multiple games in quick succession. Lose every game 7-0, that's one thing. Keep losing because you can't finish the job in crunch time, when in a position to do so, that takes a whole team effort.

There's no stopper on this team anymore. There's no just locking things down defensively, scratch and claw out a W, by any means, to stop a losing streak. I'll take a hard nosed, boring, 1-0 SO win.

This team is like Mike Richards in 14-15.

And that will continue until Blake can get some size on the backend. The D is simply overwhelmed and eventually capitulates. There is good news though. They have been in every game except one. Kaliyev and Kupari are looking better every game. Vilardi is a big concern -- showing up for a couple of shifts every game isn't anywhere near good enough.

The irony of all this is their biggest problem is they don't have anything close to a "BLUC" on the team. A guy that camps in front of the net and just finds ways to finish and a big D that can shut things down and skate, not to mention having a big shot.

The youth is needs to start trickling in faster! damn the numbers.. Kempe, Lizotte, Maatta and Brown all need to go, we’ve gotten what we could out of them and they’re either worn out, inconsistent or just plain suck ass!

Kupari and Vilardi need to be in the top 6..
King Arthur just needs to keep growing and learning
I would say F this season but I’m watching because I really wanna see Q and Turc play! Hope that happens soon for Turc

with the rumors out their that Tampa is shopping 23 year old 6’3 left shot Sergachev he would fix a lot of what’s wrong in the backend. Guy plays a good two way game, can hit, shoot and does fight on occasion. Cost would be high but we add an automatic core piece.

Kupari, Vilardi, Kaliyev, AI were the best forwards last night. Byfield will be on the team when he returns and I'm sure Turcotte will see some action after January 1st.
So we can look forward to that.

Thought Kupari, Arty and Bjornfot had really solid games. Even Lizzote was fine.

Brown was crap and then proceeded to say after game that "they need to learn how to lock down and win games" "need more from the PP" That's you jackass!! That's your job as a vet who's won. Your line f'ed it up in the 3rd. You are a big reason why the pp sucks nuts. Love you Brown, but F that BS. Since you're a lead by example guy, go F-ing lead by example. Be that bull in a china shop.

The kids were fine (Strand not so much). Late penalties by vets, A Maata play and boom, game over.

Quick has been great and deserves a better effort in front of him, especially from the other "core" guys while DD is sidelined. I wish they had the same drive as their keeper. Team doesn't need silent leaders at this moment. Hasn't worked in years.

Finally watched the replay. If this game were in a vacuum, it would just be a tough loss with progress. Reminds me of what Sutter used to say about the end of streaks--at the end of a losing streak you're losing some games you should win, at the end of a winning streak you're winning some games you should lose. If I had any faith their general play would carry over, I'd say last night was a positive step. But I have zero faith in this team to perform under pressure. The amount of giveaway points in the 3rd period over the last few years has to be staggering after years of the Kings being practically undefeated after 2.

The beginning of this season has been a masterclass in bad management and coaching as well as player performance and some shit luck.

-I don't care what you think of Vilardi's performance--playing him minimal time on the 4th line is a self-fulfilling prophecy designed to pull him out of the lineup and when he's getting 25g 55p elsewhere this staff will be scratching their heads.
-Tkachev similarly, the guy is a PP weapon, figure it out.
-Kupari with BY FAR the least TOI of forwards last night is absolutely disgusting;
-Similarly, Kopitar getting 22 minutes is proof that TM never learns, and that's a 13 minute spread between Kopitar and Kupari.
-Losing Wolanin to keep Maatta didn't look like a catastrophic move but now that it's apparent the org is higher on Maatta than Clague or Wolanin I'm ready to start questioning Blake a lot harder too, that's not just a TM decision (can't say it's for vet presence, Edler is out there).

-For the "Danault does nothing" crowd--despite the most defensive faceoffs on the team, Kempe Iafallo Danault were a combined 86% CF% and on the ice for a goal for, none against;
-In contrast, for those laying into Vilardi, the first line was worse--a combined 35% CF%, Kopitar on for the 2 ES goals, giving up 14 scoring chances against. Makes that stark difference between Kupari and Kopitar that much more negligent, and further proof TM just cannot adjust. His bench management SUCKS at best, it's just throw out your best player as much as possible and pray, but Kopitar isn't McDavid, especially this late in his career. Way to deadleg him.
-Did I mention Olol Neidermaatta
-Kings fans are apparently voting with their wallets, Staples an absolute cavern last night.

Too many self-inflicted shotgun wounds from the 'veterans,' and not enough time for the folks being most effective. You could look at the above stats and decide last night was a designed sabotage from the inside, like wtf are you looking at, Todd?

At least we already have Wright's usual winger.

Man, are we seriously as bad as Detroit, Chicago and Arizona? Seriously, trading 2 second round picks and capping ourselves out with guys about to be 30 to challenge those teams for the worst team in the league?
Don't lump Detroit in with the trash they look pretty good

Maybe I missed it but nobody talks about Quick in net in the postgame. He has been pretty solid to start the year.

This was a game wear the Kings finally got some secondary scoring, but the top line didn't produce.

Kaliyev and Kupari are showing exactly what you want to see from developing players; flashes of potential. They're both playing like they have something to prove in this league and are doing so with assertiveness.

The points will come for Kaliyev, he could easily have 3 or 4 goals on the season right now. I'm completely confident that he will be a producer in this league.

Not sure why people are praising Vilardi's game. He has like one or two good shifts per game. Send him down or try him on wing.

I say we win six of those. Not that 6-5 is a great record or anything, but we aren't going 1-15-1.

I have this referenced here a couple of times in this thread, so I'll ask this question:

Do you really think what Lowry did to Kupari was a penalty? I don't, not at all - isn't that exactly what we want to see from our team? That was a physical vet showing a rookie that there is a price to pay for going to the net. He didn't rag doll him, he was just stronger and Kupari was off balance. That's the same exact thing Mitchell did every time somebody tried to get in the paint.
