Lots of these weird, seemingly one game signings for a lot of ECHL teams, they are really short on players.

And that's not even the most intriguing signing they made that day.
ECHL Transactions - Jan. 6

They signed Derek Ciminelli who describes himself as a commercial drone pilot/fitness trainer/kiteboarder/hockey player on Instagram.

No official stats aside from 4 games (no points) played in the FPHL (known as the FHL at the time) a decade ago. It looks like he found more success as a roller hockey player.

Matt Harrington, the other player they signed, also has an interesting story. He established himself in the ECHL in 2018-2019 during his last full pro season after spending 7 years playing mostly in the SPHL and FHL. After retiring in 2019, he has been called to filled in for southeastern ECHL teams (Atlanta and Florida) on a few occasions.

This is actually so intriguing!
Looks like he plays men's league ice hockey in the same arena as the Everblades, so I wonder if he got to know some of the management or staff over the years, and was able to make a case when they needed replacements

Did not even get the chance to dress for a game. The dream is over. So close, yet so far. :(

Fortunately it looks like the Everblades were able to find an upgrade.

However, it's probably not the Shawn Bates you would expect.
