I do not see how Newfoundland plays this season. If they do it will be a huge turnaround. Essentially theyre starting from scratch. Sure they will have Marlies players, but as of right now (as far as we know) they have no coaches, no players signed, and most importantly, they have no lease. We're about two months out from training camp. It can be done, but I do not see how it will be
Breaking Down the Maine Mariners’ Offseason So Far
by Griffin Germond
August 12, 2021
PORTLAND, Maine – It has been quite some time since the Maine Mariners announced they’d forgo the 2020-21 ECHL season due to COVID-19 concerns and complications. In the 266 days since the Mariners made their cancellation announcement, the team has seen two important foundational changes and several signings for the beginning of this coming 2021-22 ECHL season. Let’s go over everything that has happened thus far in the offseason. ...

For players & staff, I would expect restrictions to flow downhill from whatever decisions are made at the NHL level. As for attendees, such restrictions established by U.S. teams -and probably the Canadian team(s) - will be dictated by local guidelines/orders. All the same as with other businesses & industries. It's gonna present another challenging season for us road trippers.... Do you believe the ECHL will mandate players, staff and even fans to either be vaccinated or show proof of negative COVID-19 test? ...
Staying away from the political lightening rod and just focusing on everyone's thoughts... Do you believe the ECHL will mandate players, staff and even fans to either be vaccinated or show proof of negative COVID-19 test?
I don't want to get into the merits for or against or the politics of it. Just will they or won't they.
Obviously things can and will change. The Royals announced their current plans for the upcoming season the other day. All cashless transactions, credit cards only at all concessions - no large bags or backpacks, (small clear bags only), masks encouraged but optional, please stay home if you are sick or were exposed to the virus, the outdoor smoking area has been eliminated (no smoking or vaping on the premises). Also hand sanitizers available throughout the building, no touch flushing on all toilets, increased filtration in the HVAC and UV lights in the air handlers, enhanced cleaning and disinfection procedures.
Just as significant maybe is the disclaimer:
"An inherent risk of exposure to COVID-19 exists in any public place where people are present. COVID-19 is a contagious disease that can lead to severe illness and death.
By visiting, you voluntarily assume all risks related to exposure to COVID-19."

Right on cue, Newfoundland has a head coach (Eric Wellwood) - ERIC WELLWOOD NAMED HEAD COACH OF THE NEWFOUNDLAND GROWLERSWe are 62 days out from the opening game of the 21-22 season and Newfoundland still does not have a coach or any players signed or (most importantly) a building to play in. I keep expecting to hear an announcement whether positive or negative from the team, but I have yet to see anything. In my opinion, we are coming down to the wire. I personally do not see how they can expect to play this season if they cannot play in Mile One.
Glad I got my message across. Now the big question is Mile One. Newfie will get a lot of their players from Toronto so not too concerned there.Right on cue, Newfoundland has a head coach (Eric Wellwood) - ERIC WELLWOOD NAMED HEAD COACH OF THE NEWFOUNDLAND GROWLERS
Maybe they move to Mile Two.Glad I got my message across. Now the big question is Mile One. Newfie will get a lot of their players from Toronto so not too concerned there.
The discussion now shifts to their long term goals. Seemingly from this release by the team the Growlers, and more specifically Dean Macdonald, plan to build a new facility. We know Macdonald has been working with the City Council in Mount Pearl I believe. Could be the landing place for a competing arena complex.Three year lease signed. Every team is ready to go for this season.

Technically an "international exhibition game" was played involving ECHL teams, the Victoria Salmon Kings & the Idaho Steelheads in Chilliwack, B.C., back in October 2004.The Atlanta gladiators are hosting the Swamp Rabbits and Anyang Halla from South Korea for exhibition games 10/15 and 10/16. Greenville will face off against Anyang the 15th and Atlanta against Anyang on the 16th. Has this happened in the ECHL before? I know in the NHL they have done some international exhibition games but has this ever happened in the ECHL? ...

Too much Russian vodka post-game, eh?Trenton played a couple of exhibition games against Spartak St. Petersburg (Russia) back in 2003-04. I scouted one of them, but can't remember the outcome.

Your eyes in your member profile photo tell a different story.I've never been a liquor guy. Too hard to tell how much you're having unless you're drinking it neat or on the rocks. I stick to beer and the occasional glass of wine.
The Royals played the Japanese National Team in an exhibition a number of years ago. It was actually played in December I believe. Definitely during the regular season when the Royals happened to have a day off. At the time they were still affiliated with the Kings, and one of the Kings scouts or organizational coaches was also coaching the Japanese team. The Royals were obviously not going full speed as no one wanted to get hurt in an exhibition during the season, and they easily beat the Japanese team, even without a regular goalie. (The Royals dressed an ebug and the equipment manager for the game). I believe a young Yutaka Fukifuji was on the Japanese team. He signed a contract with the Kings the next year and ended up playing quite a bit for the Royals (as well as some games with the AHL Monarchs, and cup of coffee with the Kings).
