Speculation: 2021-21 LA Kings News, Rumors, Roster discussion part V

I believe the Doughty injury has blown up in their collective faces. When he went down it forced them to use the kids, and the team responded. Instead of continuing in this direction, they have instead doubled down on trying to use an aging core(Brown.Kopi,#8, and added vets(Arvy,PD,Edler) to find success. We all wanted it to work. We were all cautiously optimistic. It's not working.

So what's the answer? Trade all the vets? Maybe start by healthy scratching Brown and going from there?. I'm honestly asking, because I don't know.

At this point re: the kids at least I'd agree

send Kaliyev down to get big minutes and his head on straight, he's got the yips right now. Emerging player learning a lot but his at-bats are like Gavin Lux part I.
Kupari needs to go down and skate with the puck on his stick.

JAD needs to be up and never down again
Frk deserves a look as does Turcotte

Moore, Brown, Maatta need to be stapled to the bench. Andersson has been rough but he's also just coming back and we've seen him need time to get a rhythm.

Everything is better to musical lyrics

One goal , one screen
One Dustin, who shouldn't be there
One Dustin, on the top line
Demote, bench

One Dustin but he's not the same
They have to demote the Dustin, , demote the Dustin
One
One

Well, can't blame just the coach for trusting Maattaa over Clague.

McLellan is playing with the toys given to him.

Hopefully after this season and the playoffs are missed, new management with a critical eye towards development will come in.

Don't see that happening unless Luc is gone. I think the habs grabbing Gorton was really smart.
Not sure who I would want Blake replaced with.

I do blame TM for not playing Clague more, and for playing Matta over him.
I blame Blake for piss poor asset management, and for poor hiring decisions.

I don't know who I want instead I just want them to be far, far away from any current players, staff.

Yep takes two to tango. Clague was on the roster--TM played Maatta over him.

Not a fan of making the top kids bunt instead of swinging for the fences, eh?

I am not as high on Kaliyev as most here, but man, this organization just doesn't seem to realize that kids need to work on their strengths as much as their weaknesses. No point in teaching him how to play away from the puck BEFORE letting him learn how to score first. A neutered, well-rounded Kaliyev is less valuable than a one-dimensional confident Kaliyev. The rest of the game can be learned on the job with experience.

Yup, I'm not surprised.
Team has been dog shit for 6 years and they coddle the "core" like they still know how to win.

They will not make the playoffs with 11 at #1 C and 23 stapled to his hip.
They will not make the playoffs when 11 leads the forwards in ice time.
They will not make the playoffs when 8 leds the D in ice time by more than 3 minutes over the next guy.
They will not make the playoffs when 23 plays more than 15 minutes a game.
They will not make the playoffs when they keep Maata over Clague!!
This is not a playoff team.

The only explanation for Clague on waivers, and not Maata, is that Luc was terrified that Dan Beckerman would get an alert from Quickbooks that the Reign payroll had shot up by $3.2M overnight.

Your worst forwards? Lias Andersson and Adrian Kempe
Basically the 4th line has been punching above its weight, but the top line is being regularly outplayed. People keep patting Lias Andersson and Sean Durzi on the back on this board, but they don't exactly deserve it right now. Durzi maybe on the power play, but he's not exactly earning the rest of his minutes.
I think Andersson is playing hurt cause he knows if he doesnt hes losing his job.
He was hurt to start the year and his first game back vs st louis he got hit really hard i think it was the second period. He missed some shifts after that and hasnt been the same since. It was a low key hard hit. I cant remember exactly but I dont even think he fell. It happened right in front of me but he looked so shaken up and you could hear how hard it was.
In the first period he was on the top line and looked really good.

It really stinks that Jeff Gorton is off the market. The landscape for experienced GMs is bleak right now. The Bergevin rumors turn my stomach over the idea he could be Kings GM because Luc is forced to save his job by firing Blakey and Coach Todd.

So now that it is pretty clear we won't make the playoffs this year, I no longer see the benefit of keeping Kopitar, Doughty and Brown. I kept Quick off the list because Peterson is garbage and we need some reliable goalie to avoid each game turning into blowouts and hurting the confidence of the young players. I don't think we can trade Kopi or Doughty during the season, but during the offseason we need to get max value for them. I think we can trade Brown at the deadline for a nice return. Hopefully a recent low 1st or 2nd round pick draftee that has developed for a year or two and ready to jump into the NHL. A first would be nice as well.

The Kings also need to actively draft or trade for a young goalie. Peterson has been awful this season, and is not looking like the replacement to Quick. We need a backup plan, and I don't see anyone in Ontario that could replace Quick either (let me know if I am wrong).

I was coming to make a long post about the positives that we are not losing any games big this season (except St. L early) and slight improvements can easily turn all these one goal losses into blah, blah, blah.....but then see the Clague news. Good God what are these clowns thinking?!?! Are TM & Blake on the same page with this crap, is Blake clueless and just following TMs lead, are we in a simulation gone bad, is Earth indeed flat....i just don't know anything about anything anymore.

There is no way anyone gives us a 1st for Brown. We'd be lucky to get a 3rd.

Sounds like a forward will be recalled from Ontario with the Mayor musing that Turcotte or Tkachev are the leading candidates.

My guess is it’s Tkachev and he’ll replace Lias in the lineup on the third line.

Agree with this.
I honestly would like Brad Treliving, and his ass was in the hot seat but with the way the shames are playing he looks pretty safe. He is a guy who targets obvious holes and works his ass off to fill them. His UFA history is ugly, but he trading and re-signing has been great.
The right answer was probably Soloman.
