I think most people overreact to inconsistent efforts over the course of a season. I'd wager that if you scoured through the GDTs of every NHL team for every game of the season, you would find 20+ games from every team that their fans label as "embarrassing, pathetic, unacceptable, etc." We have an emotional connection to this team, so we really notice when they play like shit. We don't really remember the Senators blowing out the Panthers 8-2, the Coyotes ending the Avs' home win streak, or the multitude of bad losses that good teams all around the league suffer. The down nights of other good teams really don't stick in our brains the way they do with the Blues, so I think that every team outside of the top 2-3 teams thinks that there team is super inconsistent, 'plays down to opponents' or simply has some fatal flaw that can be exposed.

With all that said, this team feels more inconsistent than years past. We are absolutely incredible when things are clicking, but when things go wrong they go really wrong. They have been going wrong more often than not lately.

This is so true. A week or so ago, I went and quickly checked to see how many times we have been outplayed (on the negative side of xgf%, which maybe not the best thing, but was just checking quickly) and was shocked to see it really hasn't happened that many more times than the other top teams. It was only like 4 or 5 more times. It's just when we have a bad game, it's a really bad game. lol, but hopefully we can tighten it up a bit down the stretch here.

It's called laziness, and it's simply part of human nature and always will be. I'd much rather have a confident team that has the luxury of cruise control at times than a Hitchcock Blues squad that treated the regular season divisional title as some sort of accomplishment.

19 consecutive games where the game was decided after 60 minutes.

13-6 over that stretch.

EDIT: This is a franchise record since the extra point was added in the 99-00 season. In 16-17 the Blues had an 18-game stretch. However it is not a franchise record in terms of consecutive games without ties or OT. The final 28 games of the 97-98 season were settled in 60 minutes without a tie. I didn't look further back than that.

About a month into the season started, I made a loose “prediction” that Thomas would end up with 10 goals and 70 assists.

He’s currently on pace for 12 goals and 61 assists. Such a strange stat line.
I mean, he's on a line with a 30 goal NHL sniper with a massive chip on his shoulder and one of the better two-way forwards with a nice shot on the team. Lol

Got to love the Marc Savard stat line.

Ahh, it's nothing that 9 weeks of rest on LTIR won't cure. :naughty:

If Vegas/Tampa can do it, why can’t we?

Scandella on LTIR the rest of the year and then back for the playoffs is an ideal "lucky" scenario. Armstrong prefers to add defenders to a playoff run, so he likely does not want to lose Scandella unless he has to. It's Scandella's contract that's the problem, not whether he'd be a good #5 defender who can be moved up in minutes for short stints. This would take care of the contract problem.

1st + Kostin is the Shattenkirk rental template for Lindholm (1st + Sanford)
1st + Neighbors + very good pick/prospect is probably the Chychrun price.

Even Darren Pang commented during the Montreal game on the reported Giroux speculation and how it's ridiculous to be thinking of anything besides a defender, who would obviously be a left defenseman. It's pretty clear where the focus is.

These deals get way easier if Scandella is not part of them.

I haven't seen anything to suggest that Scandella is legitimately an LTIR candidate, but having him or another guy hit LTIR (but available at the start of the playoffs) would be very, very helpful. Scandella is a very nice bottom-pair D man and his strengths are in areas that the rest of our group is lacking. It would be fantastic if we could bring in a legit top 4 LD without losing him (or a quality forward).

Bozak is 4 games away from hitting a $250k games played bonus and hasn't been in the lineup since the all star game. He hit game #800, played 1 more game and then started getting healthy scratched. Joshua is currently dressing over him but is only getting 5-8 minutes a night, so it doesn't seem like Berube feels that Joshua needs to be in the lineup every night. I'm wondering if we may be reaching the end of the road with Bozak.

His NTC expires on 3/6/22 and we suddenly only have 6 games left before then. If we are quietly shopping him around with the intention of moving on from him, it would make sense to avoid having him hit the 41 games played bonus on our roster. We're very likely taking a rollover penalty into next season, so limiting that would be helpful. If Berube feels that he's not in our healthy top 12, then Bozak might want to go somewhere else where he would play.

If I were betting on it, I'd still wager that he retires here. He signed a team-friendly deal to stay, his family is here and by all accounts he's well-liked in the room. But it is interesting to me that he was an everyday player until right after he hit game 800 and shortly before his next games played bonus kicks in.

Certainly interesting to consider. It may be coincidence, but it might not too.

His game has just fallen off a cliff, even his faceoff % is abysmal at 44.1% and he's usually among the league leaders.
Yep. People always bring up his PK ability too but he’s not even a key cog in that anymore. He’s 6th among our forwards in SH TOI per game. ROR, Buch, Thomas, Barbie and Sunny are the top 5. Saad kills penalties too so there’s 6 good options without Bozak, and if you really need a 7th and 8th, throw Schenn and Joshua out there.

Bozak had a good first three seasons with us but he no longer helps us.

I'd like to see Kyrou killing penalties. With his speed he would be lethal.
