I love the Leafs, they're the only team I cheer for in the only sport i care about. This post-season's series loss wasn't from a lack of offensive production from our core four forwards, due to bad defense or bad goaltending, it was honestly due to lack of any legit secondary scoring.
At the end of the day, the end result is the same as it has been for many, many years, it's hard to show faith and positivity when the story has the same ending.
It's why I didn't watch game 7 after game 6's heartbreaking loss. It's the first playoff game I've intentionally missed in 20 years, that's how much this team constantly breaks my heart. Didn't want to waste a perfectly good Saturday night stressing about how this team can't close out a series. I checked the score at the end of the game, watched the highlights and got the result I was absolutely expecting. If you look at my pre-game prediction, I said I was gonna miss watching this game because deep in my heart I knew the same result was going to happen.
I appreciate the Leafs, I love the Leafs, this regular season was the most fun I've had watching them in years. None of that can be taken away. This series was fun to watch, but the same end-result happened.
Now, since I decided not to watch game 7, my emotions are in check, so I don't need to be overly hyperbolic and say they need to blow it all up.
I do think some form managerial change needs to occur. Making strides in the regular season doesn't mean anything if you don't make strides in the playoffs. I do think that Keefe was outcoached in this series. I don't lay the blame on Holl for this series loss, as that would be dumb to do, but I do think having him play every single game over Lilijgren was a huge mistake. Some of his other changes left me perplexed as well. At the end of the day, he didn't get the job done and has had 3 cracks at it. Couldn't defeat a much inferior Blue Jackets team in a 5 game series in the bubble, couldn't defeat a much inferior Montreal team in a 7 game series and couldn't get the job done in another 7 game series against Tampa Bay. They were up 3 games to 2. It's not good enough, someone has to pay, it has to be Keefe.
They aren't gonna fire Dubas, it's just not gonna happen even if I want them to. Probably won't even fire Keefe.
I'll give more of my thoughts about the off-season later, just sick of another post-season first round exit, it's not good enough.
