If there will be no changes to the schedule, the regular season will start on Friday, October 14th against the Belleville Senators. And it will end on Friday, April 14th against the Syracuse Crunch.

Anyone know if Heineman will play in Laval if he doesn't make the big club?

He was signed until 2025 in Sweden, so Habs would have been required to offer him to Leksand before assigning him to Laval but it looks like Leksand agreed to pause his contract and he would honor it whenever he goes back to play in Sweden.
So if Leksand paused his contract. Can he go to the AHL?

Learned today that the AHL all-star game will be hosted in Laval this season !

It was supposed to take place two years ago. But it was cancelled due to COVID.

Then it was supposed take place last year, but it was cancelled again due to the restrictions.

So hopefully, third time is the charm and it happens as scheduled.

It's similar to the draft in Montreal. It was supposed to happen here in 2020, but cancelled and made into a virtual draft. It was then moved to the 2021 draft, but again it was a virtual draft. And then finally in 2022, the third time was the charm.

Interview with JF Houle (Laval coach), the questions from the interviewer were sometimes loaded but still interesting to hear Houle talk.

He seemed more nostalgic about last year's team then excited about the new (younger) team. Bourque, Belzile and Martel are in consideration for captain. Veterans that left played 0 NHL games last year.

Admitted that against Springfield in game 7 they were outplayed physically/tired, losing Pezz & Baddock hurt but hopeful with Saulnier, Xhekaj, Fairbrother coming

Stockton Heat, who now moved to Calgary, will now be called the Calgary Wranglers. It sucks that Laval won't play them this year. They will play the Abbotsford Canucks, like they did last year. I thought that all the Canadian teams would play each other.

With the lack of open spots up front and the hope that Slaf starts in Laval, here is how I envision things to go:

RHP - Mysak - Ylonen
Gignac - Schnarr - Slafkovsky
Martel - Stephens - Belzile
Bourque - Richard - Teasdale
Condotta Abandanatto

Guhle - Leskinen
Schnueneman - Fairbrother
Xhekaj - Bowey/Norlinder
Green

Primeau
Poulin

ECHL

Hillis, Francis, Simoneau, Vrbetic, Desrosiers

Post deadline, RHP and Ylonen get call ups and whoever is best performing between Slaf and Mysak (if Dado Monahan and Drouin all get dealt)

Mysak won't start as the 1C. He'll start lower and the hope is like Evans, work his way up to being the 1C by the end of the year.

Stephens and Richard are guys with experience. So I see them start as the top-2 centers. And then see how things go and who plays better or if there are injuries, call ups or trades.

The D is going to be very interesting. It's a very big year for Fairbrother... bringing Leskinen back is great. I really liked how he looked a few years back. Also we really don't know who will win the jobs out of camp... or if the big club gets another veteran D! It's going to really fun watching so many players this year!

I wrote some posts saying I was surprised Sam Anas hadn't signed anywhere yet and that I would love him in Laval. Earlier this week, the Hershey Bears signed him to an AHL deal.

Back to back weekend games in Abbotsford in early December should be well worth the drive...

It takes a special breed of coach to work the AHL - you've got to be supplier to the big club, development coordinator for the young 'uns and still tasked with creating a winning environment. It'll be interesting to gauge how JF Houle grows into the role this season.

So this is how I envision these line-ups depending on if Slaf starts in Laval or if he starts in Montreal. I only did the forwards.

With Slaf

Slaf - Stephens - RHP
Martel - Richard - Ylonen
Gignac - Mysak - Belzile
Bourque - Schnarr - Teasdale
Abbandonato - Condotta

ECHL: Simoneau, Hillis, Beauregard, Francis, Poirier & Saulnier

Without Slaf

RHP - Stephens - Ylonen
Martel - Richard - Belzile
Gignac - Mysak - Teasdale
Bourque - Schnarr - Condotta
Abbandonato - Simoneau

ECHL: Hillis, Beauregard, Francis, Poirier & Saulnier

Note: Regarding Heineman, the reports say that if he doesn't crack the NHL out of camp, he will go back to Leksands in Sweden. Which is why I don't have him in the line-up. I would absolutely love it if he does stay even if he starts in Laval.
