Not sure why. He,d be the best. Or amongst the best. Could make kids benefit from him. I mean, what is your lineup?
Peter Abbandonato
Anthony Beauregard
Gabriel Bourque
Ryan Francis
Brandon Gignac
Danick Martel

Brennan Saulnier
Xavier Simoneau
Alex Belzile
Lucas Condotta
Rafaël Harvey-Pinard
Emil Heineman

Cam Hillis
Jan Mysak
Anthony Richard
Nate Schnarr
Mitchell Stephens
Joël Teasdale
Jesse Ylönen

Joshua Roy
Émile Poirier

Those are the forwards Rocket and T-R have. Yes, it's a lot. But I also see a lot of ECHL'ers there.

The bolded 13 are absolute locks, and that's without considering we have 15 in MTL right now and I'd much rather see Slaf in Laval. Also means Mesar in Kitchener.

Sure they may be locks for the Laval roster, but not many deserve a spot in the starting lineup every game. Between injuries in both Montreal and Laval they will get their chance.

Which of those specifically should not be starting every night?

The only one I could make an argument for due to being unproven is Mysak, and that's not a way to develop your prospects.

There's no Smith-Pelley or Baddock in that list. Maybe no AHL all-stars, but very deep.

Stephens played in the NHL last year. He's not sitting on an AHL bench.

Schnarr is a 6'3 C with 0.5 PPG in the AHL and still 23 y/o.

Richard, like Schnarr, is a 0.5 PPG AHL vet and was over a PPG in last year's playoffs.

The only one who I could absolutely see fall flat on his face is Poirier, but even then that's still 12 regulars without Slaf.

Poirier is on a 2-way AHL deal. So he will be in 3R if he doesn't land a spot in Laval.

I think the centers to start will be:

Anthony Richard
Nate Schnarr
Jan Mysak

Isn't Stephens a C as well?

Slaf/RHP - Stephens - Ylonen
Heineman - Richard - Belzile
Gignac - Schnarr - Martel
Teasdale - Mysak - Bourque
Poirier, Condotta

NHL: Guhle, Schueneman, Harris or Barron (if we acquire another d-man this offseason, I expect both to begin in Laval)
CHL: Mesar, Roy, Kidney

I expect Condotta to play with Laval too.

AHL:
F (15):
Peter Abbandonato(1way)
Gabriel Bourque(1way)
Brandon Gignac(1way)
Danick Martel(1way)
Brennan Saulnier(1way)
Alex Belzile(NHL contract)
Lucas Condotta(NHL contract)
Rafaël Harvey-Pinard(NHL contract)
Emil Heineman(NHL contract)
Jan Mysak(NHL contract)
Anthony Richard(NHL contract)
Nate Schnarr(NHL contract)
Mitchell Stephens(NHL contract)
Joël Teasdale(NHL contract)
Jesse Ylönen(NHL contract)

D (8):
Justin Barron or Jordan Harris(NHL contract)
Madison Bowey(NHL contract)

Tory Dello(1way)
Gianni Fairbrother(NHL contract)
Alex Green(1way)
Otto Leskinen(NHL contract)
Mattias Norlinder(NHL contract)
Arber Xhekaj(NHL contract)

G (2):
Kevin Poulin(1way)
Cayden Primeau(NHL contract)

ECHL (my guess):
F:
Anthony Beauregard (2way)
Ryan Francis (1way)
Xavier Simoneau (1way)
Cam Hillis (nhl contract... what a bust)
Émile Poirier(2way)
D:

Houle and his staff will sure have a lot of options to build the opening day roster. Finding a way to best use and surround the better prospects will be key.
Still feel they are missing that top end scorer that can give you around a PPG that you need to go far in the AHL.

I'm not a huge Houle fan, but they went far in the playoffs so I'm not as worried about that next season. Development of the incoming prospects is the biggest thing for the future of the Habs, so this is where they need to do everything right or as close to it as they can. So to me am I worried about going far in the playoffs, not so much, do they need to make the playoffs, for sure. But the bigger picture is how do they handle these prospects and how does it go for them.

There's a possibility of a Byron going down on waivers at one point. He could help Laval a lot.

Only way Byron goes to Laval is for a game or two for a conditioning stint. I see Byron retiring before he accepts to go to the AHL to stay there.

Also, If Byron is good to go, it is in the Habs' best interest to have him in the NHL to help his value for the TDL.
