With Strome signing today I believe that concludes the arbitration schedule and opens the second buyout window. I think teams who filed now have 24 hours to buy out any player making $4m or more. (Please correct me if I’m wrong on the details there.)

About 1/3rd of the league is over the cap, and that does not include teams like Tampa and Long Island, who don’t have the space to sign their top RFA’s.

I’m really hoping to see Don step up and take advantage. Trade a $4m player for a $7m player (who is worth it). We get the better player, they get cap space and fill a hole.

Lemiuex (tomorrow) and Weegar (Sunday) still need to have their hearings, but here's hoping they both get signed today

If it was that easy, this should have been done by now???
Who is going to trade a 4M player ( JDB) for a 7 million dollar player ( Barzal / Sergachev??) Can't see this happening.

It will be interesting to see how Tampa Bay gets Cirelli and Sergachev signed and NYI get a Barzal deal done.
We would in a great position if we got rid of Rask and or DK, opens so many doors for us now.
Cap space is like gold now not easy to off load big contracts.
DS has to think outside the box ( can he do this???) to get a big deal done to make us better.

Now we just have to figure out who those players are.

I don't disagree with you in theory, but what $4 million dollar players do we have and for which $7 million dollar players?

I'm not against this idea at all, I'm just not sure which players we'd be bringing back, and if so, are we just putting ourself in the same position they are in?

It would have to be a smart move. And one would have to consider the cap space as part of the value in the trade.

I’d like to move Kase and Bjork in the deal. Hopefully for a LW

For example:

Anders Lee - Krejci - Pastrnak
Marchand - Bergeron - Smith
DeBrusk - Coyle - Studnicka
Whoever is on the fourth

If cap space is "like gold" then why do you find it so hard to believe they couldn't get a $7m player for a $4m player and $3m in cap space? Barzal isn't going to happen but MMB mentioned Anders Lee. If they swapped Lee for DeBrusk they'd have enough to sign Barzal. Maybe Lee isn't available either but that type of deal for that type of player seems realistic.

We have a little under $7m in cap space so I don't think a move like that would put us in the same position. Obviously they have to be aware of the math in/out. Maybe we include one of our many spare forwards on one-way deals. As it stands I find it hard to believe we won't have to waive someone to get under the roster limit.

DeBrusk is the $4m player I think they're dangling, fwiw. I would think a lot of teams would be interested in solving their cap issues and ending up with a good young player in the process.

Jimmy Murphy says the Bruins are in on Hanafin.......again

Not sure if I am a fan of that move. I have a feeling it will cost us DeBrusk.

Why are the Flames trying to move Hanifin? Their top LD is 37 years old. Hanifin may never be that top-pair D-man he was projected to be, but he's still a solid all-around D-man. Just sounds like Murphy tossing crap at a wall for clicks and subscriptions.
