Wondering what you guys think of Sam Colangelo. I like him with pick #56, depending on the other players available.

I like him. I like so many players in the 2nd round though and they just haven't had the microscope the top-1o have had, haha. I believe I kept ending up with Weisblatt at that spot but I have to imagine someone jumps him early at this point.

Fisher's Final 500 posted:
1) Alexis Lafreniere (LW, Canada, Rimouski QMJHL)
2) Lucas Raymond (RW, Sweden, Frolunda SHL)
3) Tim Stutzle (LC/LW, Germany, Adler Mannheim DEL)
4) Quinton Byfield (LC, Canada, Sudbury OHL)
5) Jamie Drysdale (RD, Canada, Erie OHL)
6) Alexander Holtz (LW/RW, Sweden, Djurgardens SHL)
7) Cole Perfetti (LW/LC, Canada, Saginaw OHL)
8) Marco Rossi (LC, Austria/Switzerland, Ottawa OHL)
9) Jake Sanderson (LD, USA, NTDP U18)
10) Yaroslav Askarov (G, Russia, SKA-Neva St. Petersburg VHL)

Raymond @ 2nd OA. Hot damn, that's ballsy!

very ballsy but at the same time I can’t really say it is to out to lunch. He could very easy be the best out of them all. I really wish we could’ve watched the regular season end and some of these prospects in the playoffs. I personally have him in my number 4 to number 6 range but it doesn’t surprise me either see him higher

Raymond was ranked pretty highly in the preseason rankings so its not completely unrealistic. I think with Byfield's age and his physical traits that it makes it very hard to pass on him 2nd overall. If Stutzle is gone by the time we pick and Raymond is still there I'd take him in a heartbeat over Drysdale too.

That's gonna be a real x-factor when reviewing this draft in retrospect, losing 1/3-1/4 of a season in a draft year is huge for guys who are in the midst of one of their biggest development years. Maybe doubly so for a prospect like Raymond who just raw didn't get a ton of playing time this year to make his case.

We all know we're going to pick 7th. So whoever's left pretty much like that old saying goes pick the best player available.
Take your pick Blakey and choose wisely.

1) Alexis Lafreniere (LW, Canada, Rimouski QMJHL)
2) Lucas Raymond (RW, Sweden, Frolunda SHL)
3) Tim Stutzle (LC/LW, Germany, Adler Mannheim DEL)
4) Quinton Byfield (LC, Canada, Sudbury OHL)

6) Alexander Holtz (LW/RW, Sweden, Djurgardens SHL)
7) Cole Perfetti (LW/LC, Canada, Saginaw OHL)
8) Marco Rossi (LC, Austria/Switzerland, Ottawa OHL)
9) Jake Sanderson (LD, USA, NTDP U18)
10) Yaroslav Askarov (G, Russia, SKA-Neva St. Petersburg VHL)

If we pick Rossi at seven, I’ll still be pretty stoked. Any one of Lafreniere, Stutzle, Byfield, Raymond, Holtz, Rossi, or Perfetti will be huge for us.

No love for Drysdale?

No love for Drysdale?
If at 3-7 and Drysdale is there hoping he is our guy. Elite D are rare and tough to get. 0 issues with any of the forwards.

Fisher had Raymond there all year and never moved him. Nothing wrong there and I think he is the 2nd or at worst 3rd most talented and highest upside player in this draft. Fisher the same and reason he never dropped him. I'd take Raymond over Stützle without bias of wanting the German.

Also Rossi has been dropping in most all rankings. If at 7 decent chance he is there. Remember some had Caufield in the top 5 and he broke records yet fell to mid teens.

Just excited for the lottery even if we end up 7. Actually almost wouldn't mind it part losing out on Drysdale. I at least do not have to see us draft #3 and take the worst guy of the top 10 lol. If at 7 and NJ doesn't take him at 6 quite sure Blake goes Sanderson.

I would be absolutely shocked if Ottawa didn’t pick Drysdale with their first pick unless they win the lottery and choose first. Happy to have Drysdale as well of course, but in the 4-7 range he won’t be there.

I 100000% agree with your logic, but it is Ottawa. And just like the Jerry Springer show, anything can happen.
That is our only hope

Are there any guys in the first round that are expected to be able to make the jump immediately?

Lafreniere and Stutzle are probably the most likely, followed by Rossi, Byfield, Drysdale as guys who get a long look at training camp. But thats just my opinion.

Lafreniere and Rossi are locks, Stutzle is very likely ready. There could very well be others in the mid to late part of the first who make it, but among the top 12 or so, that's probably it.

Rossi is a lock? Really? He’s pretty small, he’ll have just turned 19 prior to the start of the season.

I thing Laf and Stutzle can do NHL things next year. The two defensemen plus Byfield are more than a year away.

Yes. He has already stated that he is done with with the CHL and will be playing in the NHL or abroad. A team taking him that high is likely to want him under their watch and not developing in a 3rd tier mens league.

His game is very mature - he is 200 foot player, terrific in faceoffs, has the vision, touch and shot to be an immediate impact player. He likes to slow play down and shift speeds and angles suddenly to create lanes, and has no fear of traffic areas. Neither Byfield or Stutzle are as good as Rossi on the cycle or in traffic yet - very well could be as they grow, but their potential is largely based on the quality of their rush attacks or pure puck skill, which are very impressive, but their games aren't as well rounded.

Interesting that he announced that — I wonder how teams feel about a prospect taking control of where they play like that?

Thanks for the info, though!

What's interesting is that he signed to play in Switzerland, well if their season starts on-time and he is over there playing when the draft takes place, I have a hard time seeing him coming back to north America for a few weeks (I don't know how the opt-outs work, he might have to use it for that, assuming he has one, in which case, if he didn't make the team he might have nowhere to play) only to have a chance to play in the NHL.

The only lock in my opinion is Lafraniere and I wouldn't be surprised if he struggles out of the gate. Everyone else is a question mark. Remember when Kakko was NHL ready yeah that went well. Although I think he will be a good player. Some make a quick transition some just take time no one knows.

I’m really hoping we are able to get a guy like Neighbors in the mid 2nd round. Love the kids all around game and how he can make room for other players on the ice with his blend of physicality and skill.
